Gene Bonsignore and Mike Robinson proved they were the cream of the crop in class A speedway competition Saturday night. Bonsignore, riding his thundering 500cc Jawa, dominated the scratch main event over a fast riding, clean sliding "Hurricane" Hank Bassett, who overcame momentary lapses by Jim Pierce and 1978 national champion "Stormin" Norm Robinson, to take second while Pierce and Robinson finished third and fourth.
Mike Robinson blasted his way to a hard earned first place victory in the handicap main against Hank Bassett, who took it up on one wheel, in a last ditch effort to overtake Robinson but to no avail, finishing second. Close behind Bassett all the way was the always scrambling "Jumpin" John Leale who took third followed by Denny Pierce finishing fourth.
In a special match race Ted Fey and Danny Lewis - son of local speedway favorite George "Ironhorse" Lewis, put on a good show for the fans until Lewis went wide on turn one of the last lap to open up an easy win for Fey.
