Season Opener
May 4, 2005 - Industry Hills Speedway
By: Ryan Evans

Wed May 4, 2005 Ryan Fisher made a successful debut at Industry Hills Speedway by winning the Scratch Main Event at The Grand on Wednesday night.

Fisher was lined up on the pole with Nate Perkins in gate two, Charlie Venegas in gate three, and Dario Galvin on the outside. Fisher was away first went to the inside line in turn one. Venegas tried to make the outside work while Perkins followed Fisher along the low line. Venegas remained on Fisher's outside shoulder for two laps while Perkins kept the pressure down low. Fisher was able to separate from his two challengers on lap three and went on to the victory. Perkins' inside line paid off as he was able to secure second with Venegas finishing third and Galvin coming in fourth.

The first heat began with Venegas jumping into the lead, but he hit a bump on the second lap and Perkins went by and held on for the win. Denny Scopellite defeated Steve Murray and Galvin in the next heat. Shawn McConnell won the final race on round one.

Venegas defeated Brian Starr and Galvin to start round two. Perkins made it two in a row by defeating Fisher in the next race. McConnell remained perfect with a win to finish the second round.

Round three began with Fisher getting his first victory ahead of Venegas. Galvin handed McConnell his first defeat in race 24. Scopellite scored his second victory to complete the qualifying heats.

Venegas took a comfortable win in the first semi with Galvin finishing second to join Venegas in the main. The second semi was a classic three-rider battle between Fisher, Perkins, and McConnell. Fisher rode the outside while Perkins and McConnell swapped places underneath him. The three-wide, jaw-dropping battle was waged over three laps before McConnell found too much traction on the final lap and had to shut down to avoid taking out Fisher. Fisher and Perkins claimed first and second and transferred to the main, but all three riders received a rousing ovation from the crowd and their peers after they witnessed the best race in Industry Hills' short history.

The first attempt to run the Second Division Main ended with Mark Baldwin on the ground in turn one. Baldwin got revenge on the restart by jumping into the lead and running away with the victory. Rudy Laurer was second, Bill Green finished third, and Michael Hernandez was fourth.

Steve Dziadus, Sr. led the Third Division Main into turn one only to be passed by his son, Steve Dziadus, Jr., on the back straight. Dziadus, Jr. cruised from there to take home the win. Dziadus, Sr. was second, Damon Barry finished third, Jim Lavender was fourth, Mark Skeels finished fifth, and 73 year old Hugh Randolph was sixth.

Ricky Wells held off Krystal Cramer and Austin Novratil to win the Youth First Division Main. Gino Manzares defeated Dylan Black to take Youth Second Division honors. Dominic Manzares won the Pee Wee Main for the second straight week with Braydan Galvin finishing second and Rocco Scopellite finishing third.
