California Speedway
April 25, 2007 - Industry Speedway
By: Ryan Evans

Former National Champion "Flyin" Mike Faria conquered another race track by winning his first main event during a thrilling evening of racing at Industry Speedway.

Defending Track Champion Charlie "The Edge" Venegas and Buck Blair, who had won every main event at Industry through the first two meetings, were the first two off the line with Venegas pulling ahead on the outside exiting turn two. Blair lifted and drifted into Venegas which slowed both riders. Faria took advantage and took the lead with Eddie Castro in tow. Faria kept his lead at a comfortable distance all the way to the checkered flag with Castro taking second. Venegas used the outside to pass Blair for third. Both Venegas and Blair showed visible signs of frustration as both felt they had a victory in their grasp.

An earned-handicap format was used at Industry for the first time. The all-scratch first round began with Shawn McConnell holding off Venegas for a victory. Jimmy Fishback was awarded the win in the next heat when Castro fell and brought out the red flag. Gary Hicks defeated Ricky Wells in event 11. Faria ended round one by defeating Blair.

Round two started with Justin Boyle passing Eloy Medellin for a lead he would never relinquish. Shaun Harmatiuk led wire-to-wire in the next race after starting at the tapes. Castro started at the tapes in race 21 and was never challenged. Blair passed Greg Ayers and kept Wells at bay to end the second round with a victory.

Fishback worked through traffic and defeated Blair to start the final round. Venegas earned his first win ahead of Wells. Travis Henderson was an impressive winner in race 29. Faria claimed his second win in the final heat.

A three-rider runoff was required to fill the final two spots in the semis. Castro was victorious with McConnell taking second to earn the spots while Henderson finished third.

Venegas took the lead in the first semi with Hicks following closely. Castro was stuck at the back, but went to the outside and rounded Wells and then Hicks to take second and brought the crowd to its feet. The order never changed after that as Venegas and Castro booked their places in the main.

Blair trapped from the outside to take the lead in the second semi with Fishback and McConnell in tight formation behind him. Faria, not to be outdone by Castro's heroics in the previous semi, went to the cushion as well and found sufficient traction to go by Fishback and McConnell for second. Any fan who had sat down after the previous race found themselves standing again. Blair took the win with Faria following him into the main by finishing second.

McConnell was victorious in the Consolation over Hicks, Wells, and Fishback.

Bryan Buffington used the outside in the first corner to take the lead and never looked back on his way to victory in the Second Division Main Event. Jamie Myers was second, Rick Farron finished third, and Rudy Laurer was fourth.

Danny Baker rode four smooth laps to win the Third Division Main Event. Yoshi Sato was second, Brad Russell finished third, Scott York was fourth, Tony DeAlmeida finished fifth, and Joe Dillard was sixth.

Joey Holt made a great start and led all the way to the checkered flag in the Youth First Division Main. Russell Green was second and Gino Manzares finished third.

Brad Pappalardo showed patience and skill and executed a clean pass to defeat Braydan Galvin in the Youth Second Division Main Event.
Chandler LaRocque was victorious in the Pee Wee Main Event. Elijah Harrison-Hicks was second, Ryan DeLong finished third, Bryson Galvin was fourth, and Emalee Pappalardo finished fifth.
