Charlie “The Edge” Venegas kept his main event results perfect by winning the Industry Speedway Scratch Main Event for the third time in as many weeks.
Venegas started on the pole and jumped into the lead, but the red flag came out when Tim Gomez went down in turn one. A full restart was ordered. The second attempt was a carbon copy for Venegas as he jumped into the lead again while the rest of the field scrambled to get a shot at the leader. Venegas ensured that the outcome wouldn’t change by stretching his lead with each lap. The former National Champion cruised to the victory and was followed by Jimmy Fishback for the second week in a row. Shawn McConnell finished third, Gomez was fourth, and Buck Blair finished fifth.
The first round of heats started with Blair getting a victory over Travis Henderson and Robbie Sauer. Fishback scored his first win over Brad Sauer. Venegas won the next heat, but only after withstanding an impressive four-lap assault from Gomez. In the final heat of round one, Bobby Schwartz and McConnell led through the first corner before John Marquez snuck by on the inside for the lead then held them off for the win.
The earned-handicap format meant that the latter two rounds would be competed in a handicap format. Neil Facchini led McConnell the entire distance in round two’s first heat. Schwartz got the win in the next heat. Fishback passed Robbie Sauer at the end of lap one for the lead and his second win in event 20. Venegas fought through traffic and passed Brad Sauer on the final lap to get his second straight victory.
Rudy Laurer held back Venegas and Russell Green to start round three with a win. McConnell ran away with the win in event 26. Gomez beat Blair and Henderson for his first win. Facchini made it two wins in a row to close out the heats.
Venegas handily won the second semi, but Blair used a cutback move on McConnell in the final corner to steal the second transfer to the main. Fishback and Gomez finished one-two in the second semi to transfer to the main. McConnell won the Last Chance to book his place in the main.
Youth National Champion Jason Ramirez made a mockery of Second Division with runaway victories in all of his races, including the main event, to prove his worthiness of First Division. Ramirez used the outside to pass Steve Bowen on the first lap and never looked back en route to the win. Justin Hassan finished second, Brad Moreau was third, Bowen finished fourth, and Donnie Robinson was fifth.
Matt Davis led four laps to capture the Third Division Main Event. Tim McGrath was second, Tony DeAlmeida finished third, Paul Thornton was fourth, and Hugh Randolph finished fifth.
Austin Novratil won both of his heats and topped off his evening with a dominant win in the Youth Main Event. Gino Manzares was second, Brad Pappalardo finished third, and Samuel Ramirez was fourth.
Cameron Delby overcame an 80 yard handicap to win the Pee Wee Main Event. Gabrielle Manzares was second and James Weller finished third.
