Aaron Fox collected his first Costa Mesa Scratch Main Event victory in front of a gigantic crowd on Harley Night.
Colorado native “Battling” Buck Blair had first choice of starting position in the main event and he picked gate one. Former Junior National Champion Jason Ramirez selected gate four with the second pick. Fox took gate two which left Shawn “Mad Dog” McConnell with gate three.

Fox was first off the starting line when the tapes went up and was immediately followed by Blair in to turn one. Blair chased after the leader on lap one but couldn’t force a mistake. Fox never turned a wheel wrong the entire four laps and was first to the checkered flag. Blair settled for second, McConnell was third, and Ramirez finished fourth.

Gage Geist opened the evening by defeating fellow rookie Braydan Galvin in the first heat. Fox began his night with a win over Dillon Ruml. McConnell defeated Bobby “Boogaloo” Schwartz in the third heat. Blair finished the first round with a win ahead of “Flyin” Mike Faria.

Blair started the second round by defeating Ramirez. Tyson Talkington held off Rocco Scopellite to win event 10. McConnell took his second straight victory by defeating Geist. Fox made it two for two by ending round two with a win over Faria.

Geist collected his second win to begin round three. Fox defeated Blair to remain perfect. McConnell matched Fox’s perfect score by beating Scopellite in event 17. Faria finished the heats by defeating Ramirez.

Blair made a great start in the first semi and was victorious while Fox followed him in to the main event. Ramirez used the outside to take the lead and the win in the second semi with McConnell garnering second to complete the main event field.

John Wilder, the man formerly known as “John Stunkard”, led all four laps en route to victory in the Support Main Event. Eloy Medellin was second, Rudy Laurer finished third, Joe Donaldson was fourth, and Harold Hartke finished fifth.

Tom Bryant put together four smooth laps and was victorious in the Support B Main Event. Robert “The Sarge” Fiesler finished second, Wade Whitcomb was third, and Monte McKeon finished fourth.

Joe Jones and Tom Summers led the first two laps of the Sidecar Main Event but experienced an engine problem halfway through lap three. Initially they slowed down and Bryan Motis and Josh Bennett closed ground. Approaching the white flag Jones decided to twist the throttle and throw caution to the wind on the final lap. Jones and Summers labored around the track and still led entering the final corner. However, their sick machine couldn’t hold off the late charge from the national champions and Motis and Bennett charged up the inside to steal the victory at the finish line. Jones and Summers ended up second, Dual Anderson and Vinny Madagan were third, and Gerard Jackson and Dave German finished fourth.

Harley Night produced another large crowd and they were completely entertained by the exciting speedway and sidecar racing as well as the street-legal Harley Races. The evening also marked the 46th anniversary of the first speedway event held at the world famous oval.
