After much anticipation, the starting gate tapes finally go up on Saturday night, April 9 for a total of eight exciting evenings of speedway action. The new ‘Carson City Raceway’ will feature a temporary 1/10-mile decomposed granite oval track inside the rodeo arena and will offer a wide variety of youth and adult racing divisions.

On tap -- & for the first time ever in Carson City -- will be AMA sanctioned Pro Speedway Motorcycles. These radical motorcycles weigh only 185 lbs, are propelled by a methanol-fed 500cc four-stroke engine, and have minimal suspension. Perhaps the most interesting -- or insane item about these motorcycles is they can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in less then three seconds … and they have no brakes. That’s right -- they race with absolutely no onboard brakes!

Make no mistake about it race fans -- Speedway is the ‘original’ extreme motorsport. They control these unique European-based bikes with a combination of nerve, finesse, and throttle control. A typical Speedway format includes several heats, two semi mains and one main event. Winner takes all. The side-by-side full throttle action will certainly make for eight memorable nights of racing at CCR.

In addition to the AMA Pro Speedway, will be AMA Pro Speedway Sidecar, AMA youth Speedway, and AMA peewee Speedway. The mini racers will also take center stage, as the new DC Motor Sports pocket rocket series, Ballistic Bicycle Races, and EconoBox Drags will also do battle on the 1/10-mile dirt track.

CCR is located across the street from Costco at the Fuji Park rodeo arena on the corner Highway 395 and Old Clear Creek Road in Carson City, Nevada. CCR offers free parking, 1200 comfortable grandstand seats, modern rest rooms, concessions, beer garden, and picnic area.

The 2005 Les Schwab Tire Speedway Series schedule is as follows: Racing season: April 9, May 21, July 2, July 30, August 13, August 20, October 8, and October 22.

Pits open at 5pm, grandstands open at 6pm, and the show starts at 7pm.

“Media Day & Open House @ Carson City Raceway is cancelled”

Carson City, Nevada (03.20.05) -- Due to the forecast of extensive rain showers and snow storms in Northern Nevada, officials at the Carson City Raceway have been forced to cancel the 2005 “Media Day & Open House” scheduled for Saturday March 26. GM Jeb Onweiler stated, “We can’t in good faith ask our out-of-town racers to drive all the way to Carson City with such questionable weather on the horizon.  And because some of these guys are coming from as far way as Los Angeles and Colorado to support our media day, we had to make the call sooner then normal. However, if it were a points-paying race, we’d roll the dice and hope for the best.  But Dave (Joiner) and I both agree that even if it clears up by Saturday, the arena will be so muddy we won’t be able to properly prepare it.  So unfortunately mother nature won this round.” However racing will get under way on Saturday night, April 9 -- and will run thru October 22, for a total of eight exciting nights of Speedway motorcycle action. On the April 9 dance card will be AMA Pro Speedway (divisions 1,2 & 3), AMA Youth Speedway, and AMA Pee Wee Speedway.  The mini racers will also take center stage, as the new Pocket Rocket series, Ballistic Bicycle Races, and EconoBox Drags will also do battle on the 1/10-mile dirt track.  The new KidsZone Klub, under the direction of Chris Slabaugh, will debut at “Earnhardt Memorial Park”, presented by Fun Jumpers.  The supervised KidsZone Klub will feature the EconoBox Drags, a bounce house, face painting, kiddy karaoke, and more. A wide variety of food and beverages will be available at the Speedway Club under the direction of Chris Wyatt, owner of Custom Catering. Carson City Raceway is located at the Fuji Park rodeo arena on the southwest corner Highway 395 and Old Clear Creek Road in Carson City, Nevada.  CCR offers free parking (courtesy of Vital Signs), 1200 comfortable grandstand seats, modern rest rooms, food court, beer garden, and a picnic area.  The Comstock Country RV Resort is located right across the street and offers a playground and recreational stream for out-of-town racers and their families.  The Comstock Country RV Resort phone number is (775) 882.2445. The 2005 event schedule is as follows:  April 9, May 21, July 2, July 30, August 13, August 20, October 8, and October 22. Pits open @ 5pm Grandstands open @ 6pm Show starts @ 7pm. For more information on the Carson City Raceway @ Fuji Park featuring the “Les Schwab Tire Speedway Series” -- please contact Jeb Onweiler at 775.882.2460, or CarsonCityRaceway@charter.net, or Dave Joiner at (530) 878.7224, or FastFriday@aol.com.

“Fuji Park Raceway” becomes “Carson City Raceway”

Carson City, Nevada (03.14.05) -- It was announced today that Fuji Park Raceway will now become known as “Carson City Raceway @ Fuji Park” effective immediately. The name change was requested by the Carson City Park & Recreation Department. Fuji Park activities are controlled by Carson City Park & Rec -- and they were concerned that other users might get the impression all activities outside of racing would not allowed at the rodeo arena, which is simply not the case. So to end any possible confusion the speedway promoters agreed to the facility name change. So the track formally (and briefly) known as Fuji Park Raceway -- will now become known as “Carson City Raceway @ Fuji Park” featuring the “Les Schwab Tire Speedway Series”, in Carson City, NV.
