After Todd Wiltshire's prediction "that i am not going there just to make up
the numbers" after winning the Intercontinental Final at Poole last year,
His prediction has came up trumps tonight after a fantastic result in the
1st G.P. meeting in Prague, having to first come thru the qualifying rounds
and to stick it to some of the big names along way like like world G.P.
title pretender Tomasz " i wish i was half as good as Rickardsson" Gollob,
(which gave me great joy) then to finish 4th in the A-main was a superb
effort.

It may be a little premature but one could suggest that he is back where he
left off on the world stage way back in 1990 where he finished 3rd before a
nasty accident in Australia prematurely ended his brilliant career.

Todd Wiltshire is the consummate professional on and off the track and
dedication to his craft is evident with this rise back amongst the ranks
since winning the German national title back in 1997, Australian title 1999,
I/C title 1999 and now this result.

Australia can only hope and wait that the Todd's 1st up result was no fluke
as some knockers would believe and continue onto ultimate podium glory.
Regardless of his results Todd Wiltshire has done Australia proud and the
Aussie speedway fraternity applaud his efforts and wish every continuing
success for the remainder of the G.P's and European season and look forward
to seeing him back doing his stuff around Gosford this coming domestic
season......Cheers Anth Mac

Canal + couldn't does it worse. I'm beginning to miss those Wizja jobs.
Today I got no replays, only making the gate and first bend. No inteviews in
the pits. Scandal. Those guys really don't know how to do it. I'm really
pissed. Hope You guys on Sky could see today's meeting in much better
conditions.

Best regards

Stefano Alfoso won the third round of the Italian Championship at Lonigo
finishing ahead of Armando Castagna and Andrea Maida in the 5 man grand
final.
The former Monarch was in excellent condition and didn't drop a single point
during the whole evening. He scored a 12-point maximum in the preliminary
heats and missed the gate in the grand final only to recover on Castagna
coming out the final bend to take the chequered flag by half lenght. Before
the last bend it was unclear who was to win that race and the trio finished
the race withing the proverbial blancket.
The evening showed again how difficult for Castagna is to adapt to his new
equipment as he struggled all the night and dropped points to Alfonso, Maida
and Dalla Valle during the preliminary heats.
First round winner Alessandro Dalla Valle was in good form finishing third
after the preliminary heats but as he completely missed the gate in the
grand final he managed only fourth overall. Surpising again was the
performance of 15-year-old Daniele Tessari who raeched the group of the top
10 riding with the experience of a veteran and finishing 8th overall.
The meeting was marred by Simone Terenzani's horrific crash during heat 12
when he finished at high speed against the safety fence and was taken to
hospital with a suspected cracked vertebrae. He certainly will be out for
the rest of the season.
Scores:
1.Alfonso 2.Castagna 3.Maida 4.Dalla Valle 5.Tadiello 6.Mora 7. Milanese 8.
Tessari 9.Maestrelli 10.Terenzani 11. Ulian 12.Muratelli 13.Andriolo

20.Cortese 21.Pizzolato 2.Grassi 23.Soattin 24.Franchetti G.

Overall standing:

Great result for the Brits, second & third. Mark Loram has carried on from
last year although at least his points count this time! Chris Louis has been
flying in England this year so this was no surprise either but I wouldn't have
picked Billy Hamill to win - I bet the Coventry fans wish he'd ridden like this
for them so far! Also, nice to see a GM engine do the business again.
I didn't get to see the action as I haven't got Satellite TV but can anyone say
if there were any controversies and what was the track like?

Cheers

Subject: Costa Mesa Results - May 6, 2000
Date: Sun, 7 May 2000 13:13:20 EDT

Charlie Venegas combined luck and skill to become the first double main
event winner of 2000 at Costa Mesa.
In the Scratch Main Gary Hicks made the start and was well on his way to
making it three for three in Scratch Main victories this season. However,
on the second lap he broke a chain coming out of turn two and Hicks's
misfortune was Venegas's good luck. Venegas then cruised to an easy
victory over Brad Oxley, Bobby Schwartz, and Randy DiFrancesco.
For Charlie it had to be a satisfying victory as prior to the start of the main
he vented his frustration of unlucky gate draws by stating, "Just call me 'Ga

The Handicap Main began with Gary Ackroyd and DiFrancesco beating fellow
40 yard rider Ryan Fisher to turn one. They didn't exit the corner in that
order because Ackroyd and DiFrancesco bumped each other forcing DiFrancesco
down and Ackroyd wide. Sixteen year old Fisher took advantage and blasted
underneath both riders. Ackroyd and Fisher were side by side down the back
straight, but Fisher had the inside line and took command of the lead.

start from the 60 yard lineM
John DeFries returned to Costa Mesa and was victorious in the Support Main Event.
Phil Harmatiuk led the field into turn one from the 10 yard line and held
the lead for one lap before Dave Delbridge managed to get by. Delbridge
held the lead until DeFries, after fighting through traffic, passed him at
the end of lap four. DeFries was first to the line, followed by Bentley Barrett
and Mark Hitchcock. DeFries competed regularly in Southern California for
several years prior to moving to Utah last year. Chad Newlee was victorious in the
Support B main. For Newlee it was a great time to finally see his luck change at
Costa Mesa. Newlee's past experiences at Costa Mesa have not been good. In his
debut last year, he went over the wall in turn four, breaking his leg, and he missed
the entire season. Last week, in his return, he met up with the turn four wall again.
Brent Smith finished second and Eloy Medellin finished third.
The evening had a scary incident involving Mike Mattocks. At the completion of his
Scratch Heat, Mattocks lifted just before crossing the finish line and clipped
Gary Ackroyd's foot. This sent him out of control and he hit the turn one wall
very hard with his back taking the brunt of the impact. Mattocks was knocked
unconscious and was attended to by the medical staff for about ten minutes.
He was taken out on a stretcher and transported to a local hospital.
It was later reported that he had only su
