Isn't it the first time, Slovenian rider takes part not only in SGP but
also in World Championship Final? I don't rememeber any
Slovenian riding in one-day World Championship Final.

Les,
Thanks for the reply. I can only talk about the situation at
Bysarna but I assume that its the same for the other clubs. The
sport is run on a professional basis, and spectators do pay an
entrance, and the riders are paid by result. The club also raises
money from (Don't laugh now) Bingo events held on Sundays, that
regularly draw very big crowds. The major difference that I noticed
was that decisions on many things are made on a sporting basis,
and not on a business basis, and hence the whole atmosphere
around the club was more "relaxed".

According to local news last night Sam is out for 6 - 8 weeks with broken
wrist and finger. The worse crash I ever saw was Richard Juul at Oxford
-this was almost as bad, but fortunately for both riders turned out to be
less life threatening, thank the Lord.

Ruth & others,

No disrespect intended, but I wish people wouldn't post adverts for various
political campaigns to what is supposed to be a discussion list about
speedway. You could post just anything in the name of 'it's a good cause',
and quickly the list would degenerate into a Usenet-style shambles.

Campaigns like these are incredibly simplistic and only serve to misinform
people. I've witnessed conditions in some of the so-called 'poor' countries
and whilst I'm sympathetic to the plight of the people there, solving the
problems is not as simple as writing off foreign debt. For one thing, a
large percentage of foreign debt is owed to private companies, not
governments.

We all have our political hobby horses, but lets keep the discussion on
this list to speedway.

I am very pleased to hear that Sam's injuries are not too bad. He has had some
bad ones in his carreer, and another serious injury might bring his retirement.
I always look forward to seeing Sam at Oxford.
I also remember Richard Juul's crash and it was frightening. Everyone at Oxford
has the greatest admiration for him for successfully coming back after such a
horrendous crash.
