Hey all,

In Belgium we have only one track, Heusden-Zolder.
This year we organise the second semifinal of the European Junior Speedway
Championship (under 19).
Currently we have no riders, but we are planning to build a new track, where
we can start with education for young riders.
Belgium is a very central country is Europa and it is a pitty that we have
no riders, but the Belgian Speedway Association (wich I'm the secretary of)
is do everything they can to promote the speedwaysport and to educate young
riders

Cheers,

Nico

Nico,

I went to the Belgian Open meeting at Heusden-Zolder last year. It's a
quite a nice stadium and I thought the meeting was well organised.

I seem to remember Belgium entering the World Pairs Championship a few
years ago, and being represented by the Cools brothers (Frans and Gert).
Whatever happened to them?

Hey Kevin,

About 7 to 8 years ago, Belgium had several speedway-riders, but the most of
them quit the sport. The reason was mostley the expensive prices of the
bikes and equipment and the bad facilities to train, as we only had two
tracks, on wich the authorities increased the possiblities to train.
But nowadays, we are brinning speedway again up to a popular sport in
Belgium. Hopefully we can educate some young riders.

Cheers,

Have you thought about collaborating with the Dutch? Now that the Amsterdam
track has closed (hopefully temporarily), perhaps you could stage a round
of the Dutch Open in Belgium?

In longer term, it would be great if the old Benelux League could be
revived with teams from both countries.

Hey Kevin,

We are collaborating with the Dutch people. The officials at our meeting are
people from the KNMV (Dutch federation).
This is because there are no track-racing officials in Belgium.
But I'm planning to follow an FIM-seminar for referee next year.
For next year we are planning to hold an Dutch Open at our track.
In 2001 we will probably have 3 meetings, first and Dutch Open, then an
test-match between the junior-team of Poland and senior-teams of The
Netherlands, Frane and Germany. Finally we organise on the 26th of august
the final of the European Championship for the big guys. This championship
is held for the first time.

Cheers,
