Charlie Venegas

Charlie "The Edge" Venegas took home the main event for the second week in a row at The Grand in Industry Hills on Wednesday.

Venegas drew the inside gate position and was away first, but Shaun Harmatiuk went down in turn one and brought out the red flag. Venegas and Shawn McConnell left the line simultaneously on the restart and battled side by side through turns one and two. Venegas pulled ahead on the back straight and McConnell stayed on the outside line and allowed Buck Blair and Harmatiuk to go by. Venegas extended his lead with each lap and took a comfortable win. Blair finished second, Harmatiuk was third, and McConnell finished fourth.

The first round of heats began with Dale Facchini getting a great start and holding off McConnell for the win. Blair won the second heat ahead of John DeFries. Harmatiuk chased an impressive Trinon Cirello for three laps before passing him for the win. Venegas closed out the opening round with a victory.

Neil Facchini opened the second round by holding off his brother for the win. McConnell scored his first win over Blair in race 14. Harmatiuk came from the back to win the next race. Venegas remained perfect by winning the last race of round two.

Skyler Greyson trapped from the outside and held off Jimmy Fishback to begin the final round. Blair won event 22 and handed Harmatiuk and Venegas their first losses of the evening. McConnell scored his second win in the next race. Neil Facchini's second win closed out the heat races. After two restarts, Dale Facchini won a four-rider runoff that was required to fill the final three spots in the semis. Cirello was second, Greyson finished third, and Brian Starr's fourth place eliminated him.

Blair led the first semi until he was passed by Harmatiuk at the line after turning his attention toward the crowd. Both riders transferred to the main. Venegas and McConnell used their experience to take first and second, respectively and transfer to the main. Cirello led the Consolation for a lap before being passed by Neil Facchini who was awarded the victory when Cirello fell on the third lap.

Mark Baldwin got the jump on the field in the Second Division Main with Steve Murray in hot pursuit. On the third lap Murray used the inside line to pass Baldwin in turn three. Baldwin chased Murray on the front straight but slid off in turn one and Murray was uncontested on the final lap. Carl Gazafy finished second, Tommy Kistler was third, and Baldwin was fourth.

Vince Giamformaggio put together four smooth laps to win the Third Division Main for the second time this season. Kerry Sorensen finished second, Joe Schultz was third, and Mark Skeels finished fourth.

Braydan Galvin held off Dominic Manzares to win the Pee Wee Main with Max Cirello finishing in third. Krystal Cramer won the Youth Main ahead of Gino Manzares and Russell Green. Joe Jones and Brandi McElroy led the Sidecar Main Event from start to finish. John DeFries and Jimmy Olsen were second, Brian Motis and Chris Coniglio finished third, and Jeff Medberry and Chris Levitt were fourth.
