Scott Brant

Former National Champion Scott Brant scored his second main event victory in a row at The Grand at the Industry Hills Expo Center.

Buck Blair left the line first and tried to trap the field in turn one, but Brant made a good enough start to prevent the Colorado native from securing the inside line. Blair and Brant battled down the back straight and into turn three where the battle got physical and Brant managed to surge into the lead. Blair was forced a little wide through the corner and along the front straight.

Blair's wide line gave Chris Kerr the opportunity to eventually get under Blair when they exited turn two. Kerr immediately closed ground on Brant but the leader remained cool under fire and was first to the checkered flag. Kerr settled for second, Blair was third, and Nate Perkins finished fourth.

Brant began the evening by winning the first heat. After a restart, Kerr defeated Shawn McConnell. Blair held off Jimmy Fishback to win the next heat. Dario Galvin passed Charlie Venegas to win race seven. Shaun Harmatiuk completed round one with a victory over Bobby Schwartz.

Schwartz began round two by handing Brant his first loss at The Grand. Fishback impressively defeated Kerr in the next race. McConnell earned his first win in race 18. Harmatiuk made it two straight by defeating Venegas. Blair held off Galvin in the final race of the second round.

Harmatiuk opened the final round by maintaining his perfect score. Blair matched Harmatiuk's perfect score by defeating Schwartz. Perkins put himself into the semis with victory. Brant earned his second win in race 27. McConnell completed the heats with his second victory.

Blair won the second semi to earn a transfer to the main, but Perkins utilized luck when Schwartz suffered an ignition problem while running second. Kerr and Brant finished first and second, respectively, to complete the main event field. Schwartz trapped from the outside and cruised to the Consolation victory.

Rudy Laurer jumped into the lead and put together four smooth laps to win the Second Division Main Event. Bryan Buffington finished second, Eloy Medellin was third, and Tommy Kistler finished fourth.

Mark Skeels led the Third Division Main Event until he fell on the second lap. Kerry Sorensen took over the lead and led the rest of the way for his second straight win. Lee Crecelius finished second, Steve Dziadus Sr. was third, Skeels finished fourth, Wayne Isaac was fifth, and Vince Giamformaggio was credited with sixth.

Jason Ramirez held off Krystal Cramer for the Youth First Division Main Event victory. Austin Novratil finished third. Philip Harmatiuk scored the Youth Second Division Main Event win on his first ever night of competition. Joey Holt was second, Russell Green finished third, and Dylan Black was fourth.

Youth rider Russell Green took center-stage for one of the most kindhearted and generous acts that has been seen in speedway. Green, who has suffered mechanical problems since he began racing earlier this season, was brought onto the track before his second heat and was presented with a new bike and a spare engine by R.C. Motorsports. Green, who was completely unaware prior to receiving his gift, showed his appreciation by competing on his new machine the rest of the evening.
