June 27, 2007 - Industry Speedway
By: Ryan Evans

Charlie "The Edge" Venegas won the Scratch Main Event for the second week in a row and the fifth time overall at Industry Speedway.

Venegas had a perfect score entering the main and elected to start from the pole. When the tapes went up he was first off the line and led the field into turn one. Venegas left little doubt regarding the race winner behind him and ran away with the win. However, there was an intense three-rider battle for second raging behind him. Shawn "Mad Dog" McConnell was clamped on the inside line while Bobby "Boogaloo" Schwartz used the outside and Buck Blair used the inside to try to pry the position away from him. McConnell was up to the challenge, though, and held on to second and Schwartz was able to get to the inside in front of Blair to secure a third place finish.

The heats began with Ricky Wells getting the victory over his Joker Machine teammate Greg Ayers. Blair won the next heat over Schwartz. The next heat ended with a crash in turn one that took out Gary Hicks for the evening with a shoulder injury. Dale Facchini held off Shaun Harmatiuk for the win on the restart. Jimmy Fishback defeated McConnell in the next heat. Venegas ended the first round with his first win.

Dale Facchini began the second round with his second straight win. Wells made it two in a row with a win over Schwartz. Neil Facchini beat Tim Gomez for his first win. McConnell earned his first win in event 23. Venegas ended round two with his second consecutive win.

McConnell began the final round with a win over J.T. Mabry. Neil Facchini won his second straight win by holding off Eddie Castro. Wells used the outside to get the lead and then kept Blair at bay to keep his score perfect. Venegas matched the perfect score of Wells by winning race 30. Schwartz beat Fishback in the final heat. Gomez beat Harmatiuk and Fishback in a runoff for the final spot in the semis.

The first semi had Neil Facchini go down in turn one and then Wells lost his silencer as the red flag was coming out. Wells was automatically excluded from the restart. McConnell and Blair cruised into the main event with a one-two finish. Venegas led the second semi for start to finish with Schwartz following him into the main. Wells won the Consolation after a restart that was caused by a turn-one pileup.

A two-out-of-three match race between Venegas and Castro was also featured. Entitled "The Last of the Mohicans" because the gentlemen sponsoring the race sport Mohawk haircuts, the two riders split the first two races with some intense inside-outside racing. Castro made the start in the third race and fended off all of Venegas's challenges to earn the win.

Rudy Laurer won his second straight Second Division Main Event with a dominant performance. Bryan Buffington finished second, John Marquez was third, and Vince Giamformaggio finished fourth.

Toni Hicks led the Third Division Main Event for two laps before Danny Baker used the outside to pass her for the lead exiting the second turn. Baker never looked back from there and took the win. Hicks was second, Airimis Santana finished third, Hugh Randolph was fourth, Dominic Maniaci finished fifth, and Lance Remington was sixth.

Russell Green got the best start in the Youth First Division Main, but Gino Manzares passed him on the back straight and went on to the victory. Green was second and Joey Holt finished third.

Braydan Galvin won the Youth Second Division Main Event for the second week in a row and the fourth time this season. Richard Crocker was second and Elijah Harrison-Hicks finished third.

Bryson Galvin led the Pee Wee Main Event for three laps before suffering bike problems as he was approaching the white flag. Lexie Santana took over the lead and was first to the checkered flag. Nathan Remington finished second and Galvin was credited with third.

There won't be racing at Industry Speedway on July 4. Industry Speedway's schedule switches to Saturdays in the month of July with the next three events scheduled for July 7, 14, and 28. The Wednesday schedule resumes on August 1.

Riders and fans who need their speedway fix on July 4 are encouraged to go to Wheel2Wheel Raceway in Victorville. The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will also include a fireworks show.
