Auburn California is the Event Capital of the World, and what most people picture are running, biking, equestrian events, triathlons, and other feats that test the strength of the human body and mind.  At Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway, Friday night’s 25 lap main event was another endurance event to add to the list of Auburn’s toughest tests.

Billy Janniro, 2008 USA/AMA National Speedway Champion, again proved he’s one of the toughest speedway riders in America, winning both the Scratch Main Event and Friday nights special 25 Lap Main Event.  Janniro was flawless again Friday night at the Gold Country Fairgrounds, winning all his scratch and handicap heat races, the scratch main and the special 25 lap main event to cap a perfect night.  “My strategy was to get to the front as quick as possible and conserve fuel,” said a very tired Janniro after the 25-lap event.  To add to Janniro’s worries, the back yardage was doubled on all riders so Janniro started nearly a half a lap back, 120 yards from the start line.  Also, a very strong field of riders rounded out the eight man line-up including Auburn’s Bart Bast who went into Friday’s night’s contest leading Janniro in season track points 1428 to Janniro’s 1142.  Also, in the special 25 lap main event was; Alex Marcucci, Matt Becker, Greg Hooten, Mark Carrillo, Daniel Faria, and Bryan Yarrow, all capable riders of outlasting everyone and winning the extended race.  Lap seven saw riders dropping and Janniro assumed the lead shortly thereafter catching zero yard rider Carrillo and holding the lead until the end despite strong pressure from Bast for the remainder of the race.   Bast just couldn’t get around the night’s iron man though he gave Janniro a great race.  “I just raced in the scratch main before this and my forearms tired and sore,” said Janniro.  Bast finished second and Carrillo took third in the endurance contest.

Janniro continuing a pattern that seems very familiar lately also won the Scratch Main event, Bast was second, Bryce Starks was third, and Charlie Venegas was fourth.  Division II was won by Danny Turner, second was Charles Haines, and Sean Billenstein was third, and keeping with the endurance theme, the Division II also ran 10 laps doubling the usual 5 laps.  Division III also ran ten laps and was won by Chris Wilkes, Billy Parino grabbed second, and Casey Cornilsen took third.  Division I Youth Main Event was won by PJ Bryne, moving up from Division II Youth, second was Cody Ciciarelli and Thomas Reich was third.

It was a great night of racing in Auburn as all the riders tested their endurance at the Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway.
