In front of a packed house at Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway in Auburn the Extreme Sidecars made their final appearance at the Gold Country Fairgrounds with an exciting show as five teams of three-wheelers went all out on the 900cc bikes. The veteran sidecar team of Joe Jones and Jimmy Olsen again won the sidecar main event.
Billy Janniro continued to be the fastest man at the track Friday night winning the Scratch Main Event and Charlie “The Edge” Venegas picked up a win in the Handicap Main Event for the first time this season. Janniro continues to dominate the scratch program at Fast Friday’s with another impressive win in the scratch finale his eighth of the season. “The Kid,” when on the program, has only been beaten once in the scratch main at Fast Friday’s by Auburn’s Bart Bast in week four. Bast still leads Janniro in season track points.
Janniro out of lane four beat Bryan Yarrow who took second, Bast who was third and Greg Hooten who finished fourth. Hooten, had a rough night and fought his way into the scratch main, falling three times in heat races, but still made the main. Janniro seems as ready as he can be riding in top form as two big races are in the near future at Fast Friday’s. The track championships are September 11 and the biggest race of the season is approaching as Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway hosts the final round of the AMA/USA National Speedway Championship on October 2nd. Janniro, the 2008 national champion will be trying to repeat but with stiff competition from seven time national champion Greg Hancock who is looking for an eighth crown, one more than any other American rider. Hancock now sits tied with Auburn’s Mike Bast at seven national titles each.
“I usually don’t go all out in the handicap program, if I make it, I make it, kind of saving it for the scratch, but tonight I wanted to get in six rides and shine up all the gear, so I went for it, it’s hard in the handicap, with all the talent on the short yardage,” said Venegas.
Division II was won by Mike Browne, his first main event win of the season, second was Daniel Faria, and third was Shawn Eldredge. Division III was won by Dustin Berdollt, and for the second week in a row Fast Friday’s promoter David Joiner had to settle for second place, Chris Wilkes was third. Cody Ciciarelli took top honors in the Division I Youth Main Event, PJ Bryne was second and Tanner Kane was third.
