Billy Janniro, 2011 USA National Speedway Champion, dominated the second week of racing at Fast Friday's Motorcycle Speedway in Auburn. Janniro notched his first sweep of the handicap main and scratch main events of the new season winning both mains with convincingly. Janniro won all his races in both the handicap and scratch programs with flawless riding. Janniro's only loss of the evening was to Charlie Venegas in the two lap run-off in the first round of five Challenge Elimination match-ups during the season.
In the scratch program Janniro was unstoppable with great gates and nearly perfect riding. In the scratch main event drawing lane three, Janniro faced last week's scratch main winner Bart Bast in lane two, JT Mabry, who made both mains Friday night in lane four, and Charlie Venegas in the inside lane one. Venegas got inside first with Janniro just outside of him. Venegas kept Janniro just outside for two laps before Janniro made his move and passed Venegas on the third lap. Bast was trailing and passed Venegas on the final lap. Janniro took the checkered flag, Bast was second, Venegas was third and JT Mabry was fourth.
Riding from the 50 yard line in the handicap program, Janniro wasted little time working through the pack to take all of his heat races and outlasted second place JT Mabry riding from the 20 yard line. Bob Hicks was the third place finisher starting on the 30 yard line in the exciting handicap main event.
In Division II, coming off a 12 year absence from speedway riding was Ryan Bast, son of seven time USA National Speedway champion Mike Bast. Bast, starting on the zero line easily won his heat race and later in the evening took the Division II main event. "I last raced in 1999 and have always loved riding speedway, and I just couldn't watch from the stands anymore," said Bast. "My goal is to get into Division I and be in the scratch main with these guys someday," he said. Bast joins his cousin Bart Bast and his uncle Harlan Bast racing at Fast Friday's this season. Richard Fehrman finished second and Michael Achilles was third.
Division III was won by Auburn's Tyler Warren, second went to Chris Casey, and third to PJ Bryne. Youth A main event was won by Meadow Vista's Tanner Kane, second was Jamison Dilkey, and third was David Hernandez.
