Big Time Speedway, Prairie City, September 15, 2012

Big Time Speedway held a 911 Tribute, with first division Speedway , Quads and demonstration races of small engine Karts.

As usual, Big Time Speedway cut no corners with a very tastefully orchestrated recognition to our sometimes under-recognized heroes in the military, firefighters, the police, first responders, and a special recognition plaque to a hardworking lady with multiple skills, who keeps the show going. This was followed by a fine introduction to every competitor in each field of racing.

The format of the first division speedway event was 12 man championship, for 4 rides and A, B and C main events. No formula with this number of riders enabled all riders to compete with one another, so more than one maximum would have been possible. The only rider to actually achieve a maximum was Billy Janniro. Charlie Venegas lost only one point to Billy. Under 21 National Champion, Gino Manzares rode fantastically getting great gates, followed by 4 fast laps and was untouchable in his first three rides, but starting from the outside gate in his last race, was left in last place, to battle it out with Greg Hooten. The race ended prematurely, with Greg on the ground and that ended his day of racing.

A run off was forced by Bryan Yarrow, Chris Kerr and Bryce Starks scoring 7 points, which Chris won, putting him in the A main, with Janniro, Manzares and Venegas. Janniro got the gate, with Venegas in pursuit, and Kerr and Manzares battling for third. Their race got easier when Charlie got into the loose dirt in turn one and quickly went from second to last.

I was impressed with Gino Manzares. He came to Auburn last month and won the Under 21. This week he came to Prairie City, for I believe, the first time and won 3 races, beating some heavy duty competition and finishing the evening second behind Janniro. This lad has true promise for the future! Northern California 's next event is the AMA National Championship on Friday, September 28.
