Military Appreciation Night - San Bernardino, CA, USA - June 21

The Billy "The Bullet" Hamill Express marched into Pirate Speedway perfect and he marched out the same way as he extended his unbeaten run with another dominant performance on Military Appreciation Night.

Hamill and Josh Larsen both entered the main event perfect, just as they had Saturday at Costa Mesa Speedway. Unlike Saturday it was Larsen who won the draw to determine who had first gate choice. Larsen chose gate one and Hamill, after looking at gate five briefly, picked gate two. "Battling" Buck Blair selected gate four, Russell Green took gate three, which left former Under 21 National Champion Austin Novratil with gate five.

Hamill and Larsen left the line together but Hamill surged ahead and held the lead through turns one and two. Larsen chased after the former World Champion on the back straight but he was already starting to open up room on the field. Green and Novratil were battling each other and also trying to get around Larsen for second. They maintained their duel with each other but couldn't gain ground on Larsen. Hamill was a comfortable winner and ran his undefeated streak to 51 consecutive scratch race victories for the season. Larsen settled for second, Green was third, Novratil finished fourth, and Blair was fifth.

Max Ruml kicked off the evening with a win over Green. Larsen defeated Tyson Talkington in the second heat. Hamill ended round one with a defeat of Novratil.

Round two began with Larsen keeping Ruml at bay for his second straight win after a sensational four-lap battle. Hamill romped to his second victory in the next heat. Talkington finished the second round with a win over Blair.

Blair started the final round by beating Green. Larsen held off Novratil to remain perfect. Hamill ended the heats by defeating Ruml to match Larsen's perfect score.

Hamill blazed to his fourth straight victory in the first semi while Novratil got second to join him in the main. Larsen and Blair finished one-two in the second semi to book their places in the main.

Novratil fought off a persistent "Fast" Eddie Castro to win the Last Chance and earn the final spot in the main event. Talkington finished third and Ruml was fourth.

Dave Troutt led the Support Main Event for nearly a lap before Chris Jones went by. Jones held the lead until Mike Reed went by at the start of lap three. Reed was cruising as he took the white flag and seemed to be a lock for his second straight main event victory but his lanyard disconnected from his kill switch and he coasted to a stop. Chris Jones reacquired the lead but went wide in the final corner. Paul Sanburn tried to exploit the mistake they drag raced to the finish and Jones was a narrow victor over Sanburn. New York's Andy Crawford finished third, Mike Fuson was fourth, Troutt finished fifth, and a disappointed Reed was sixth.

Dillon Ruml led the Junior 250 Main Event from start to finish and collected the victory. Junior National Champion Broc Nicol was second, Hayley Perrault was third, and Dryden Gayle finished fourth.

Dryden LeoGrande was leading the Mini 150 Main Event before falling and bringing out the red flag. Dryden LeoGrande was penalized on the restart. Michael Wells led the second attempt at the start but had Sebastian "Big Daddy" Palmese all over his rear tire. Palmese searched high and low for a way past Wells but was unsuccessful for four laps. On the final lap Palmese got his wheels lined up exiting turn two just a bit quicker than Wells and charged up the inside of him on the back straight. Palmese snatched the lead entering turn three and beat Wells to the finish line. Dryden LeoGrande was third.

Tanner Richey led the Pee Wee Main Event for nearly a lap but fell exiting turn four. The race was allowed to continue and Revin Easley assumed the lead. Revin Easley never looked back from there and was first to the checkered flag. Jonas LeoGrande was second, Talin Easley finished third, Luke Whitcomb was fourth, Jason Palmese Jr. finished fifth, Nick Dunn was sixth, Cameron Krezman was seventh, and Richey was eighth.

The next event at Pirate Speedway is Bobby Schwartz Night. The event honors the international speedway icon who has won many international and domestic championships and is still going strong and winning main events at 56 years of age.
