Big Time Speedway continued “Doin’ it Right”. With yet another transfer load of decomposed granite and many hours of hard work and sweat, they created one more perfect track for the fifth and final round of the Golden State Series. In honor of Jessie Kreyling, a long time and well known AMA District 36 flat track rider that passed during the week, a reverse lap was ridden before racing began.

With each round of the series this season the rider count increased. At this round riders from Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Southern and Northern California were there to ride speedway, flat track, quads, mowers, pee wee and the Billy Janniro Challenge classes. One hundred and seventy five entrants joined the fun, some riding this track for the first time and all having a lot of fun! Word about the track and fun has spread throughout the racing communities.

The pits were filled with campers, tents and kids riding bicycles. They most enjoy riding their bicycles up and down the jumps on the track when the racing action is done for the night. Folks gather to share food and, of course, to rerun the races in conversation.

Championship awards were distributed at the end of the night, beautiful golden cups mounted on marble bases. Separate awards were also given to the top riders in each class of this night’s racing. Big Time Speedway not only treats the riders right but they treat their staff well too.

Youth riders today will be the pro riders of tomorrow. Big Time Speedway shows the youth some love at Prairie City by always giving them 3 heat races and a main event just like the pros. As always, the youth speedway riders were first on the track. The youngsters that have ridden the series show marked improvement since the first rounds. Division 2 and 3 riders have also greatly improved and some will move up in classes for the 2016 series races. Southern California rider Sebastian Palmese took all 3 heats and the main event wins in the 250 Division 1 class. Kyle Cunningham and Dylan Wagner followed. Palmese also took home two gold cups from his series championship victories in the Billy Janniro Youth Challenge and the 250 Division 1 classes. Division 2 250 rider Anthony Dion topped that podium. Cameron Krezman and Richie VanderMeeden finished second and third respectively. Brothers, Sterling and Alex Martin rode all three heats and the main event in the first and second positions of the 150 Division 1 Junior speedway class. Behind them Landon Collins finished third after Timmy Dion crashed out of competition in the first heat. The Junior 150 Division 2 class winners were Greg Moore and Charlie Trana followed by Glenn Geist and Sammy Waddill. In the 15 rider Youth Flat Track class Anthony Giamonco and Brandon Weller both rode at the front of their respective races. Alex Martin and Cameron Krezman each finished second followed by Anthony DeMario and Aidan McNutt. Big Time Speedway awards all of the split class podium finishers with appropriate medals at each event.

In the Pro Speedway competition 15 riders battled. Billy Janniro and Luke Becker were separated by only two points in the Golden State Series Championship. Max Ruml, riding side by side with Janniro in heat one, took the win. While Becker won his first heat. Janniro came back to beat Becker in their second heat. Meanwhile, Gauge Geist and Kurtis Hamill had their own battle each winning their first heats and Max and Dillon Ruml were competing against each other, each winning a heat race as well. In the main event Max crossed the finish in front followed by Dillon. In front of them Janniro and Becker put on a show. Becker got the hole shot and Janniro came off the line second. Janniro wasted no time getting around Becker for the lead. Behind the front 4 riders Kurtis Hamill and Gauge Geist had their own race. Hamill ran in front of Geist for the first three laps with Geist coming alongside him several times. In the final lap Geist powered off the final turn to cross the line tied with Hamill In the run off Hamill rode in front all 4 laps. The race finished Janniro, Becker, Ruml (Max), Ruml (Dillon), Hamill and Geist.

At Big Time Speedway the Flat Track runs the same as speedway, using a speedway format. The riders enjoy doing something a little different at Prairie City. The flat track pro class included 17 riders that included Brad Spencer and Jon Nunes as well as Tony Meiring, Kevin Keeran and more. Keeran led the championship points accumulation at the beginning of the night and even though he finished 4th in the main event he went home with the Championship Cup for the series. Grandpa Nunes, Caleb Halbert’s grandfather from Salinas, California took the lead in the main event from Kevin Keeran in lap 3 and never looked back. Meiring kept Nunes honest working the inside and the outside trying to make the pass for the lead but not realizing that goal finished second. Brad Spencer, a well -known accomplished California cushion track rider, showed up to try his luck at Prairie City this day. Spencer finished third followed by Keeran. In the vintage class Spencer easily won each race he contested. The championship points chase top contenders were John Larson and Mitch Gallagher. They each had 33 points at the beginning of the night. Spencer, a true gentleman, knew there was a points chase a stake that he did not want to interfere with. He led the race followed by Larson through lap five when Larson took the lead. Gallagher had worked his way into the third position in lap four. The race finished Larson, Spencer and Gallagher. Larson won the championship and the coveted gold cup.

Michael Mannion became a first time Dad this season but that didn’t slow him down any. He led the Amateur flat track championship points chase going into round 5 and left with the win and the series championship victory as well.

Herewith the belated totals for the Big Time Speedway's Golden State Series. Apologies for the delay.

You may note that many riders rode more than one division. This is not a typo. This was a great ending for the season at Prairie City. Billy Janniro won the series by one point over21 16 year old Luke Becker. The 6 man main event will remain in many memories for a while.

The race track was very well prepared, and held up all night, with no grooming between races. This was an unbelievable achievement because in addition to the 48 Speedway races, there was probably even more flat track, quad, peewee and Lawnmower races.
