Brown Crowned State Champ at Bear Creek

Scotty Brown captured his third consecutive Ohio State Championship at Bear Creek Speedway with another display of his speedway skills. Brown has been winning championship format races with perfect scores and looked to be on his way to another perfect event score.

In the 3rd main in the championship runoff, Sobek Muszynski turned up the heat and gave the other riders hope for future events. Muszynski pulled the holeshot and held off the charging Brown for two side by side laps that had the crowd on their feet. Brown took over with an outside move just as they took the white flag. Brown (Shoei Helmets, Justice Brothers, Applied Innovations, Oury Grips, Lou's Leathers) went into the final main with a perfect score through 5 heats and 3 championship mains. Brown explains the start of the 4th main as his downfall, "I was kinda glazed over, I didn't see the starter move over or O.K. us, I wasn't even reved up when the band went across". Muszynski too advantage of Brown's snooze to lead flag to flag and finish with a 2nd overall and new confidence for the US Open in August. " I will have just a little more for you in August" Muszynski joked with Brown on the podium.

Muszynski's brother Bogden and Pat Reynolds were the other two championship qualifiers and they held some equally good battles for 3rd and 4th. Reynolds finally squeaked out a 3rd place finish in the final heat to avoid a shutout. "It wouldn't have bothered me a bit to go scoreless among competition like this, it was a pleasure and a privilege just to be out there (hey, that's what he said! I guess Reynolds was just a bit tuckered out.) Bogden didn't realize his brother had beat Brown until after the race and he responded with "You? Beat him?"

The Muszynski's each won 3 heats and took 2 runner ups to make the championship with Bogden winning his last 3 heats. Reynolds got in with 2 wins and 3 runner ups. Another good performance was put in by Lance Darson, who won the qualifier then won 2 heats and had 2 runner ups. A DNF in the 2nd set of heats cost Darson a sure shot at a spot in the main event in his first race at Bear Creek. Biff Wazinski also won a couple of heats to take 6th overall. Tom Hensler, Mark Mauer, and John Busler also had heat wins.

In flat track motorcycle action, Bobby Peters won the Lite Division and took runner up to Hensler in the Heavy Division. Sean Massie topped the Youth Division .
