Brown bags 5th straight at Bear Creek

Scotty Brown captured his 5th straight US OPEN title against a stellar field of eastern Speedway riders. Nearly all scheduled riders were able to return after a 2 week rain delay, the first rain of the 1995 season. Brown (Oury Grips, Shoei Helmets, JT Racing, K-N Filters, Blendzall, Lou's Leathers, Justice Bros., Terry Cable, Alpine Star) rode a nearly flawless race and went through 5 heats and the 4 race championship runoff with a perfect undefeated score. The Muszynski brothers, Bogden and Sobec, raced to a 2nd place tie and decided to settle it on a coin flip which was won by Sobec. Mark Maurer rounded out the championship runoff. This was the first time for the many time feature winner Maurer to make a championship field and as he put it, "There's no easy gates or gimmee points once you get this far". Maurer was right there, but was unable to score in the runoff.

In round two of the championship runoff, things got interesting as Brown was called for jumping the start and sent to the penalty row. An obviously aggravated Brown led the charge to turn one as Sobec went nowhere. The assistant starter, Walt Pitman, happens to be a fireman, and he realized that Muszynski was experiencing an invisible alcohol fire, and his quick action averted certain injury for Muszynski. On the restart it was Brown back up front, with Muszynski's back to their side by side sibling rivalry and Maurer with no more to go right behind them. Brown hopes to keep his competitive edge and the Muszynski's hope to convince the locals to accept the challenge of a team race format.

In flat track action, newcomer Joel Brown led one of the biggest fields of the year in the lightweight class, while Dan Reed came out on top of his biweekly duel with brother James in the heavy division. Norm Into and John Clark swapped first and second places in light and heavy nobby classes. Charlie Italia and Donnie Southers topped the youth division.
