Charlie Venegas wins the Main Event!

A horrible 5 hour drive from the San Francisco Bay was rewarded by another great evening of racing at Auburn. Back racing again this week were Bart Bast and Jim Sisemore. Billy Janniro looked set for a great evening, winning the Handicap Main. He got past leader Ian Ferris crossing the tapes at the start of the last lap.

For a short while he looked like taking the Scratch Main too. He made a superb gate and lead out of turn two, followed by Bart Bast. But Folsom's Bobby Hedden, then Charlie Venegas fell, so the race was re-started. In the re-run, Venegas and Janniro got the gate and for the first two laps rode side by side. But coming out of turn two on the second lap, Janniro wobbled, ran wide and hit the wall. This gave Venegas a clear win, ahead of Hedden and Bast.

The Fast Fridays track has seen a lot of action during the past week. Last Sunday, John Cook Speedway Academy held a successful two day training session for 13 riders of various skill levels. Each student was presented with a diploma at this week's event. On Thursday evening there was a social evening held at the track by the Auburn Chamber of Commerce, with demonstration match races. Fast Fridays is giving the sport a lot of local visibility.
