Speedway at Kern County Raceway

After another successful practice session yesterday at Kern County raceway in Bakersfield, Track manager Larry Collins and myself I have decided that pending final track improvements we want to go racing in the next month!

We want to get to work right away on building the speedway crash wall and adding in DG to the track surface. If that can be completed within the next 10 days we will do a final test session on 7 February.

The first race will feature a two hour speedway program late afternoon followed immediately by a flat track race event in the evening.

Places on both programs will be limited for the first event and will be signed up as pre-pay online. We will Have the sign-up link live in the next 7 to 10 days.

In the event we do not have the necessary improvements done in time we will instead run a practice session on February 20 and the start date for racing will be March 20.

Hot Shoe Hall of Fame Grand Opening

Hot Shoe Hall of Fame Grand Opening and 50th Anniversary Celebration of “On Any Sunday” Event Postponed

Our new event date is May 1, 2021

We are sorry to announce that we are moving our inaugural event date to May 1, 2021, due to the extended restrictions recently announced by the State of Nevada and the city of Las Vegas concerning live events. Our new event timing will be set to begin the last day of the Annual 2021 Mecum Motorcycle Auction, now moved to April 28 - May 1, 20121, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The Convention Center is just minutes from the HOT SHOE Hall of Fame, located at 4th and Fremont, as part of the Famous Fremont Experience. Our Grand Opening and Celebration of the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the iconic motorcycle movie On Any Sunday as originally planned, just now on May 1, 2021, versus our original date.

More Details to follow. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Our response to the event has been tremendous, and with our new date in place, we will be moving forward with additional event detail and activities.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas! From the HOT SHOE Hall of Fame team

Speedway at Kern County Raceway

The icing on the cake for a great speedway weekend at Perris!

Coming in 2021 Speedway and Flat Track at Kern County Raceway in Bakersfield.

Practice January 3rd. Numbers will be limited to 20 as we are still developing the track to get it race ready. Race surface and crashwall are under development.
A handful of riders conducted a private test last week and we are ready to move to the next stage. We hope to be racing by March. Practicing testing sessions meantime! Perris is still the priority but we will be taking the Perris blueprint to new pastures with year round racing.

Sign up information for the practice session coming very soon.

AMA Under 21 / Junior Long Track Nationals at Perris

Supplementary Regulations - Speedway National Under 21 Championship and Youth Long Track National Championships

In case you didn't know, next up at Perris we have a HUGE event with the future stars of American Speedway in mind. The 2020 stagings of;
- The AMA Under 21 National Championship
- The AMA 250 Junior & 150 Mini Speedway Long Track Nationals

As well as these championships, we also have these classes
- Division 1 Exhibition (no prize money)
- Division 2 West Coast Championship
- Division 3 West Coast Championship
- Upright / Vintage West Coast Championship
- Pee Wee 50s
- Sidecars
- Hooligans
- Open Dirt Track
- 0-125cc & 100-150cc Mini Bike TT r

To sign up, the link is here. Note, U21 and Juniors need to sign up by noon 9 November. All other classes have until noon 13 November. ama-under-21-youth

The race is November 14th starting @5pm. It will be broadcast PPV on xsra.tv. Spectator tickets are not on sale due to local pandemic restrictions.

Heat sponsorships are available at $75, Mains $200. It really helps at this time. We are the only SoCal track running in 2020 and it takes a team effort to keep speedway sliding!

We are also accepting items for goodie bags for the young riders (many thanks to Law Tigers, Gene Woods racing experience and Wolverhampton Speedway for donations so far). If you have cool items the kids will like, get in touch!

It will be a great night of racing! We are especially excited to bring the Under 21 Championship for the second consecutive year. We are expecting a good rider turn out in this division. It is especially appropriate that Perris has taken this race on given the requirement for an Under 21 rider on the 2021 Speedway of Nations team with Perris being the home of Team USA.

Please get in touch if you have any questions on this event. We are absolutely delighted to run these showpiece championships.

-----

The Perris race on October 24 will have a live PPV webcast at XSRA.TV - American speedway racing action!

We've mentioned this before, but Xtreme Speedway Racing Action TV is the business founded by the late and very missed Mark Williams and now in the hands of Ken McKinney. Ken has invested a lot of time and expense into this project but that comes from a belief in American Speedway. He has been helped in setting up this project by our former webcast crew at Low Budget TV, but having our own channel gives us much more potential to tailor the content and over time you will be seeing the channel and broadcasting developing as a massive asset for all of American Speedway. Many ideas and surprises are being developed.

We want to use the channel to reach new fans world over and inspire kids to give speedway a go. American Speedway is far from perfect but it is the best kept motor racing secret this side of the pond.

So, if you are missing seeing live American Speedway (and if you are not, please check you still have a pulse), sign up for the PPV and support the project. The racing will be excellent and the subscriptions put good faith in Ken and his team and enable them to keep up their great work.

Also, as a reminder, the rider link is here to sign up. We are asking all 500cc riders to sign up by 9pm on the 21st so we have a chance to draft the teams. http://www.perrisspeedway.com

And once more THANK YOU to the all the riders, crew and sponsors for giving us enough support to keep SoCal speedway alive and well in 2020. Having almost the entire speedway community behind the hard work is more appreciated than I could ever say and makes all of the time it takes to do this worthwhile.

Perris Raceway practice day October 10th 4-9pm.

We have a longer than normal gap until our next race event so we thought we would hold another practice session. The practices we held back in May raised funds that have helped us keep racing during this very tough time period economically with spectator and other restrictions.

Let’s have a fun day and raise some funds to keep our spectator-less racing viable!

Open to Speedway, Hooligans, Dirt Track, Mini Bikes, Pee Wees, and Sidecars. All profit goes to Keeping Perris Speedway Sliding for the rest of 2020 and into 2021!

Rider Pass $75 (includes rider and up to 2 pit crew) Pit Pass $25.

Ken McKinney, who took over the torch of Xtreme Speedway Action videos from the much loved and missed Mark Williams, is launching a new online Speedway TV Service which debuts at Perris this Saturday (September 29) with a PPV stream of our Salute to America race.

There are plenty of other areas we are exploring with the channel. More on those later!

2020 AMA Youth Nationals

At the AMA Youth National Speedway Championship August 29 each Youth racer received a Lucas Oil bag full of great stuff. Big thanks to one of speedways biggest supporters Scott Talkington and of course Lucas Oil.

I hope you all enjoyed the Youth Championship and the livestream that reached just over 10,000 fans. It was a huge display of how far Fast Fridays reaches into the world and also how important AMA Youth Speedway is. It's what is keeping places like Fast Fridays and speedway in America alive.

A huge shout out and congratulations to the YOUTH Champions
250cc Wilbur Hancock
150cc Nick Hohlbein
And their parents and teams

Other thank you's must be given and certainly not forgotten:

Hank Hohlbein who helped with many things and mostly the Live Stream that was free.
All of the Fast Fridays officials that had a long day without much pay.
Marianne Hamilton who single handled got everybody licensed and signed up.
Michael Kirby broadcast to the entire community of speedway with his great articles on face book and the Auburn Journal.
Vladimir Kruk for his pictures that were well liked all over Facebook
And for me all the parents and teams and former Youth Speedway racers and supporters I must pay Homage to all.
Thanks for the support of myself and my family.
30 plus years supporting and developing youth riders and look forward to the next and every new generation.

Thanks you all!

Nicol fights for Speedway Grand Prix

"It'll be a tough meeting for sure but I've had a couple of meetings at Perris over the past month and felt really good on the bike and have plenty of self belief right now," said Broc Nicol before the FIM Speedway Grand Prix Challenge. The meeting will take place in Goričan, in Croatia on Saturday.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions connected with it, the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) has canceled the four qualifying rounds and has moved the Grand Prix Challenge from Žarnovica, in Slovakia to Goričan. As a result of cancellation of the qualifying rounds, the 16 national federations has nominated its riders to start in the Challenge. The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) has nominated Broc Nicol to start in the meeting.

"It's the next step on the ladder for me and having tasted the qualifiers before this one-off meeting will be a first but I know if I can put five starts together on the day, I can compete and beat anyone in the field," added Nicol.

The best three riders from the meeting will qualify for the 2021 FIM Speedway Grand Prix Series.

The starting list
1. Grigory Laguta (Russia)
2. Krzysztof Kasprzak (Poland)
3. Matej Žagar (Slovenia)
4. Mikkel Michelsen (Denmark)
5. Jurica Pavlic (Croatia) – wild card

Taking a small step in the return to normalcy Speedway Grand Prix returns 2 weeks from today. Due to the abbreviated schedule each venue will hold races on consecutive days. The first 2 GPs will be held on August 28 and 29 at Wroclaw, site of last year's most exciting Grand Prix in years.

There will also be double rounds held at Gorzow, Prague and Torun for 8 rounds total.

No announcement about a stream yet but it is safe to assume it will be available to American audiences as has been the case in previous years.

Perris Speedway August 15

It's going to be a bit warm at Perris tomorrow so bring lots of water and sunscreen!

We have pushed the start time back to 6pm (gates will open 3pm and no admittance ahead of 3pm please). Division 1 will start around 7. No spectator tickets and grandstands closed per Covid protocols.

Unfortunately due to late unavailability of a cameraman we will not have a PPV webcast this time. We will broadcast the event on Facebook live (no charge) on the Perris Facebook page (link below). It will be a more basic broadcast (IE smart-phone on a tripod) but we do feel strongly that we need to make the event available to the public.

The Nick Varner Cup is always a special event. We have a good rider line up (including Becker, Max, Manzares, Novratil, Fox in Division 1), 8 Sidecars and a very nice rider purse; quite an incredible feat when our biggest revenue source (spectators) is not permitted at this time. But we are proud to be in a position to keep American Speedway going at this point. We also look forward to normal service resuming and Costa Mesa and Industry Racing staging their stellar events at a future time. SoCal Speedway is strong with three strong and passionate promotions.

Also, in tribute to Bruce Flanders, wear your Hawaiian shirt tomorrow if you are in attendance or even watching from home.

Here is the link to join our Facebook group if you want to view live tomorrow. (Thanks to Jeff Flanders for offering to be the cameraman!)

PERRIS SPEEDWAY JULY

Speedway Racing returns to Perris on July 18th. The Division 1 program will feature a British League style team race, Team Captains Gino Manzares and Aaron Fox will draft their teams a few days before the race from the signed up riders. All Divisions feature in the show and the Mini Bike Class will run the TT Track.

Also, Mike Lupo is working in coordination with ourselves and track owners to stage a 'Sunday Funday' Practice from 9am-2pm on Sunday 12 July (Update, this practice has been canceled due to lack of sign-ups). He needs 22 riders minimum to cover cost and will donate any profits towards some cool stuff we have in the works for Perris (info later).

Further ahead, our October race previously scheduled for October 17th is being put back one week to the 24th in coordination with Patrick Bedford and his awesome scheduled race in Tennessee on the 16th. With so few races this year last thing we want is a clash and we're always happy to work with other promotions so everyone wins.

Sign Ups are Pre Pay (the system is working well and virtually eliminating no shows). Do sign up early for the race as we sold out of speedway spots last weekend before the race.

Fast Fridays June 26

With the 2020 Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway season delayed because of the Covid 19 pandemic Fast Fridays has been unable to open to the public with speedway races. But Friday evening Fast Fridays hosted a practice for nearly 35 riders and their mechanics though without any spectators able to view the action in the stands. Following State of California and Placer County Covid 19 protection guidelines Fast Friday’s was able to allow riders and mechanics to the Auburn track for a long awaited night of racing. Each participant was requested to register before the event and was provided with two face masks and hand sanitizer upon entry for use during the event.

All three adult divisions and the youth, pee-wee’s and sidecars divisions were able to get out on the track and get back into the groove. Fast Friday’s promoter David Joiner is hopeful that as California re-opens the state that Fast Friday’s will have a season soon. All participants took the precautions seriously donning the masks when not able to keep a social distance of six feet and the evening was a total success.

Just a quick word to say thanks to everyone who is signing up to ride Saturday and to our sponsors and donors. It’s a pure speedway miracle that we can run races with a D1 purse at all with empty grandstands, but that is down to YOU for supporting and believing! You are all appreciated and I thank you for supporting practices and absorbing the temporary fee increases. It’s moments like this that are stand out me in my Speedway life. CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY COMMENTS

‎‎Ken Ray‎ to Speedway America; "I assume that there is no Speedway motorcycle racing tonight at Industry Hills? We would have had some notification about it. If anyone knows any different speak up please."

Steve Evans; "No American speedway tracks are currently open for racing. We all have very different circumstances both with the facilities where we run and different cities and counties. Not to mention very different business plans and overhead."

Kelly Inman; "Nope. As posted before. LA County will be last to allow any sporting events with spectators. We still cant even have everyone working in office on the same day. "Phase 4" is what's been listed from day 1. We are just beginning stage 2 🤬🤬🤬.
And now with all this BS happening the last 2 weeks. We will see how big the "spike" will be in LA County.🤞
Any updates will be posted on website and the Industry Social Media..
Thanks for asking Ken.. Stay safe!"

PERRIS SPEEDWAY UPDATE

Perris Covid Classic Race rescheduled to June 27th. Full approval at all levels is very much a dice roll in time for this Saturday. State has approved but needs to be passed down to county and city levels for vote. Even if signed off later on this week too short a lead time to do all of the vital things needed for I see no issue with all being okay for 27th.

We will run a practice Saturday 4-9pm but need enough pre sign ups to cover cost. $75 including a +1. Need enough pre paid by 3pm Thursday so sign up early. In event we don’t make the overhead we will refund everyone immediately via PayPal.

Link on website coming up but can PayPal to dreamteamspeedway@sbcglobal.net meantime.

PERRIS JUNE 13 RACE UPDATE

Sorry to say but I don’t yet but have any further update as far as getting granted permission to run the race next weekend. This doesn’t mean it is canceled, we could wait till Monday to make a final decision. We need the county and the city to be in stage III of reopening and then we are good to go.

Just to prepare everyone, if we do get a greenlight we will put online prepaid sign up link up immediately so be ready to act quickly as we would need to have sufficient sign ups and support in a very short time span. The most likely scenario would be racing with no or very limited spectators. In either of those circumstances entry would increase by $5, So you’ll be looking at $45 to Race and $25 for crew. This would be temporary increase until we could run with spectators again. Thanks to our sponsors and the profit made from the practices we could run a few events without spectators but we’ll been making further cuts along the board, the biggest will be to the promoters. We intend to pay Price money for division one only around the AMA minimum of 1375 for that division and pay the top eight places only. 400, 300, 250, 200, 100, 70, 50, 25 is proposed breakdown. All other divisions would race for Trophies only. There will be no comp entries or pit passes without exception, even if Bartosz Zmarzlik signs up he’ll pay the same as Beachball.

I hope this information is useful and we are ready to run if we get the greenlight otherwise we will have to wait another two weeks till June 27.

Steve Evans Dream Team Speedway (June 4, 2020)

---

We are hopeful but not 100% definite that we can give you good news in the next day or two regarding our scheduled race on June 13. At this point it is in the hands of the local city to authorize our return to racing. The track owners have very good relationships within the city which we see is a positive thing. California is now moving into stage 3 of reopening and that is the criteria where professional sport is allowed to return.

Assuming we get the approval then the only variable will be what the limits are on attendance are, most notably spectators. Rest assured, we have five different game plans written out that cover every circumstance. And in the event that fans are not allowed or very restricted, we will be offering pay-per-view broadcasts from low budget TV at a very affordable price.

It is a huge and complex process, a combination of state, county and city guidelines but ultimately it is now in the hands of the local city. We are 95% there.

As we have raised some good funds in our recent two practice sessions we will, with a few financial overhead adjustments, most likely be able to go racing under any permitted circumstances, even without fans (our biggest revenue source).

As we have stated before all admissions for riders crew and, if permitted, fans will be pre-ticketed. No on the day cash entry and no comped entry. We will all have to work together and be willing to give and take to make this happen but assured the biggest financial sacrifice will be on the part of the promotion.

I feel we are inches away from returning as long as we get the green light by the weekend we have time to pull this off but be ready to sign up the moment we go on sale as entry will be first come first serve regardless of division.

In a worst-case scenario we will continue with practices but not necessarily on the dates published for racing.

Keep an eye on our Facebook page so we can bring you the news when we have it.

We thank our sponsors for supporting us in every aspect of our return.

2020 Season Announcement

Costa Mesa Speedway and Brad & Jaleen Oxley regret to announce that due to the concerns surrounding COVID-19 (and in order to comply with the state & federal guidelines of social distancing) the OC Fair & Event Center has, at this time, canceled all events through August 31st. This includes the previously posted Speedway events scheduled for May 30, June 6, June 20, August 12-16, August 22 and August 29. Signs Of Life For Speedway

After a very weird few months speedway is finally coming back to life.

Locally, Perris is the first track firing up with a closed (no spectators) practice next Saturday. If riders need more information, it can be found here: Perris speedway practice-info.

Tentatively, Perris' first race may occur on June 13th provided the Riverside County Health Dept. gives its blessing. More information can be found here: Perris speedway to-be-confirmed.

If you want to see a good explainer about the goings on at Perris, go here (you don't need to be a FB member to view the video): steve.evans.3990 videos.

Fast Fridays is looking at a June 5th opening but I would guess a few things would need to fall into place for that to become a "for sure" date. More information can be found here: fast Fridays race-schedule.

Internationally, Britain is still on hold but Poland is preparing to fire up on June 12th. The Polish Ekstraliga dates are confirmed and hopefully streams will be available for those matches. They will be held with no fans for the time being. They can pull this off due to lucrative television contracts and excellent sponsorship. More information about the Ekstraliga can be found here: sportowefakty ekstraliga.

Last but not least is the Speedway Grand Prix. Obviously, due to current conditions and because they attract the largest crowds, they must be the most cautious. Tentatively they are looking at kicking off the season in Cardiff on July 18th. Here is the current schedule: speedwaygp calendar.

Stay safe everyone and hopefully we get back to racing sooner than later.

SPEEDWAY MOTORCYCLE PRACTICE @ PERRIS RACEWAY
SATURDAY MAY 16, 2020
4-9PM

Presented by Law Tiger and Keating Dental Arts.

FUNDRAISER FOR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FLAT TRACK ASSOCIATION

SPEEDWAY MOTORCYCLES, JUNIORS, PEE WEES, SIDECARS, HOOLIGANS, MINI BIKES

We are delighted that we have an okay to resume practice sessions at Perris Raceway.

The Riverside County Health Department reached out to us recently and told us we can open for private practices. We couldn't be more excited to share the news with you as we're sure you can't wait to get back on your bike to go fast and turn left!

The past two months have paid a hefty toll upon the venue and our landlord SCFTA with zero revenue and monthly bills mounting. This private session is a great chance to ride, have some fun and help the venue get back onto an even keel.

The number of attendees is limited to 75, as mandated by the county, and the pre-paid fundraising fee is $75 per rider (non-refundable). We need good viable attendance numbers hold a practice. If we fall short, your pre-paid fee will roll over to the next practice. If you pay, and don't show, it will not roll over. There will be no admission for riders not signed up ahead.

We also have a special ‘Speedway and Pit Bike’ family package at $100 for two riders (one speedway, one pit bike). Riders taking advantage of this package offer must arrive at the track together and pit adjacent to each other.

We will have a medic and a small track crew to flag and help bump you off.

We need approx 30 riders (not including the extra Mini Bike spots) to make this viable. The more the better to help the track!

We also welcome anyone who wants to donate or offer sponsorship towards this session so we can guarantee staging it and support our track. We have a high overhead to run practice. We will run at least one speedway session per month until races are allowed if we have the demand to make it viable.
e
As you might guess, we have implemented new social distancing guidelines that will help keep riders safe. Those are listed below.

SCFTA’S
SOCIAL DISTANCING REQUIREMENTS

• Riders only at this point. No spectators, photographers, and/or trainers allowed. Riders under 18 may have a single parent/guardian (1) with them.
• All attendees must wear face protection during attendance when not wearing a helmet.
• Attendees must park vehicles at least 10 feet apart and maintain at least 6 feet between each other at all times inside the park.
• Maximum number of attendees is 75 at any given time.
• No events or group activities allowed.
• All bleachers and seating areas are closed.
• No high-risk persons allowed (as determined by health department).
• Anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or who is ill is not allowed.
• Anyone who has been in contact with someone with COVID-19 symptoms is past week or has anyone at home who is currently ill should not attend.

2020 Speedway at The Grand Arena

2020 Speedway at The Grand Arena to be slightly delayed...

Due to the current global pandemic and the unknown, and after discussions with city and county officials, as tough as it is, its an easy decision ... we will be postponing / pushing the speedway season at The Grand Arena out until further notice. I will always keep everyone informed the minute I have word. Our number 1 priority is safety. We want to keep everyone safe and are following all recommendations to do so with public gatherings. I don't see any legit spectator driven sporting events anywhere happening for LEAST a couple months in all reality...

While our season opener at Industry Racing, the 6th annual Connor Penhall Memorial Cup will just be delayed / pushed back, we will be back strong and healthy ... and then just run later into the year!

Any schedule updates will always be on our website at IndustryRacing.com and posted on social media...

From our families here at Industry, Industry Hills Expo Center and City of Industry, California, we wish you all to be safe and healthy, and we truly look forward to seeing everyone as soon as possible! We thank everyone on the front-line's and send well wishes to all that this virus has affected.

I'm also looking at some more Saturday races ... Sept 5th, Oct 3rd and Oct 24th so keep those in mind now. Thank you for the support, be kind and stay well!

Speedway in Bakersfield

Saturday, March 14th 2020 - Division 1 Championship Speedway is coming back to Bakersfield CA! Junior Speedway too!

Looks like we are at $10,000 for the purse for the 1st annual Digger Helm Speedway Classic! A Championship event!

We are bringing speedway back to Bakersfield, California, at the Kern County Fairgrounds with an amazing event honoring local legend racer and the famous Bakersfield promoter, Digger Helm!

The Digger Helm Memorial Classic will be a great race and will be bringing back so many fans from yesteryear, that were at all the races in the 70's!! A lot of excitement in the Central Valley for this!

Division 1 speedway and Juniors will be the showcase for the 1st event. After this one, lets bring all divisions back!

Thanks to Mike Hatcher for wanting to bring back speedway to Bakersfield, and huge thanks to Michael S. Helm for getting this purse together for these deserving racers, in honor of the legendary Digger Helm!

Ventura 2020

Just to give everyone a heads up, after much consultation with Jim Naylor and Cliff Morgan I wanted to inform everyone that there will not be an AMA National Round at Ventura this year. It really comes down to the massive overhead and time involved in turning a car track into a speedway track. A burden which falls square upon promoter Jim and his team. Whilst it is disappointing not to have an 8th consecutive running of the race, we 100% understand the tracks situation and we continue to have a great working relationship. It was a mutual decision to take a year out.

The door is open to resume the event in 2021. With that in mind we plan to run a Division 1 Invitational event as part of the July 18 AJ Herrera Flat Track Race. More details on that in due course. It should be a well paid race where speedway has a chance to re mark its turf.

As an additional note, Jim runs a mini bike class on an infield oval once a month at his car events. He would run Upright and Amateur Laydown classes at these dates if enough interest. Schedule is at www.venturaraceway.com. I can help coordinate if any interest.

At this point I do not have any plans to run an AMA Round in 2020. The economics of such do not fit any other venues budget and I really think the series needs a bit of a rethink as it’s own concept.

Thanks once again to Jim Naylor. With enough support this could just be a one year break and it does buy us time to plan a better way forward.
