2000 Race Schedule

Every Friday Night, all summer long!
July 7, (CLOSED 14), 21, 28
August 4, 11, 18, 25
September 1
September 8, Jim Hedrick Speedway Memorial Championship

The second annual Jim Hedrick Memorial Speedway Race is scheduled for September 8th, 2000. Since we are only having one "big" speedway race this season, this one has been in the works all summer. We plan on it being bigger and better than ever! We are fortunate to have ascertained the services of Dave Havill and Duncan Luke to organize and referee the event. At present, it looks as if ten to fifteen Canadian riders will be in attendance (most of which are first division riders). We also have verbal commitment from several riders from Wisconsin, Michigan, and Indiana. This combined with our ten local riders, promises to make for a great race! Track owner/promoter/speedway enthusiast Herschel Benkert has posted a $1000.00 (U.S.) purse. Pay out will be on a per point scored basis. Of course, the exact amount per point is impossible to post until after the final sign up on race day. Tow moneys will be $50.00 (U.S.) for all out of town first division riders. Second/third division riders from out of town will receive $25.00 (U.S.) per rider. The race will consist of a first division and a second division/support program. Trophies will be awarded to the top three positions in each program. Admittance to the facility remains free to all competitors, family, friends, and crew. There will, however, be a ten dollar sign up fee for each rider to off set the cost incurred for the additional activities scheduled. Dave Brant (Brant Engineering) will be on hand to conduct the technical inspection prior to the meeting. He will also host a technical seminar on Saturday morning which will include basic bike setup/maintenance as well as high performance tuning tips for the upper division riders - a great opportunity offered at no additional cost to every competitor! Basic bike/rider requirements for the event include:

* legible number plates on all three sides of bike
* working tether type kill switch
* secondary chain guard
* cabled muffler
* Snell 95/dot approved helmet in good condition

Keep in mind that this is only a partial list. The safety and subsequent admission of all bikes to this event will be left up to the discretion of Dave Brant, so be sure your equipment is in good order! Tire rule for this event: Kenda, Barum, Mitas, Trackmaster only -no exceptions. Post race activities include a Cajun style barbecue hosted by Morgan Hedrick (son of Jim Hedrick). Track side camping is available, as well as several motels within a short distance of the track. Following Saturday morning's technical similar, the track will be open for practice. Instruction for D2/D3 riders will also be available. Those planning on competing are encouraged to contact Patrick Reynolds at this e-mail address Patrick.Reynolds@mvs.hosp.uky.edu or phone (606)293-0405. Keep in mind that we may very well have more than sixteen first division riders in attendance. In which case, we will conduct qualifying heats for the last 2 to 4 first divisions spots. The sooner we hear from you, the less likely that you will have to quality. Rider sign up will begin promptly at 5pm (EST). Practice begins at 6pm with Racing at 7pm, so come enjoy the southern hospitality that Lawrenceburg Motorcycle Speedway has become famous for!

Sign up @ 5pm

Racing @ 8pm

This will be the last event of the year @ Lawrenceburg Motorcycle Speedway. We have verbal commitment from several Canadian riders - possibly as many as 12 will compete.

As of right now it looks like we will have a first and second division championship. Of course, this is dependent upon the number and caliber of riders in attendance. With the Canadian season concluded we do expect a good turn out. This in addition to the 8 local riders should make for a great program!

The event will be followed by a track side barbecue and trophy presentation. In addition, an open practice session will be held on Saturday complete with a clinic for second/third division rider conducted by Patrick Reynolds. All this at no charge to the participants.

Tire rule for L.M.S. Indiana State Speedway Championship: tires allowed - Kenda, Trackmaster, Barum (16 and 18). No exceptions to this rule.

Rain date : Saturday Sept. 25 @ 10am (it's the following day after the scheduled race)

Pay off is as follows: 1 division - 100.00 (American)
2 division - 60.00 (American)
3 division - 35.00 (American)

This is a straight pay off with no purse. If you compete and make all your heats, this is what you will make regardless of how you finish. Your riding level will be determined by previous performances and experience.

A very nice trophy with "Indiana State Speedway Championship" engraving will be presented to both divisions: this should certainly be a big plus for the riders resumes who win this event. It of course will also be posted on the internet complete with pictures.

Come join the fun and excitement, and experience the southern hospitality Lawrenceburg Motorcycle Speedway has become famous for.

We have a verbal commitment from about 8 Canadian riders. This combined with our 8 local riders will make for an exciting event for the many SPEEDWAY fans in our area. We look forward to making this inaugural event a success, as well as accommodating our out of town riders in the same fashion that has become a tradition for us at L.M.S.

The type of program will depend on rider turn out/ability:

If there are enough D1 and top D2 riders, the main event will be a scratch format.

If we have mostly D2 and D3 riders, the main event will be a handicap format. In this case, you will be handicapped according to your performance during the nights heat races.

Riders will get 1 to 2 practice sessions and four races.
Pay Off: Straight pay/no purse
Division one - 100.00 (American)
Division two - 60.00 (American)
Division three - 35.00 (American)
Trophy for main event winner.
Free barbecue after races for our racers and guest.
Free open practice on Saturday following Friday nights races. Racers can plan on a practice track which is almost identical to racing conditions.

Come be a part of this historic event and experience true southern hospitality!
The weather forecast is great for the entire weekend, and camping is available at track side.

Lawrenceburg Speedway News

August 11, 1998
We went through about a 5 week period of "rain outs" right after the 1998 opening night. Since that time we have raced every weekend. Mostly the local guys with the exception of one weekend when Andy Delimat came down. We have also been sticking around for Saturday practice every weekend. The track has been wonderful (as always), and everyone has been progressing nicely and having a great time. Several of the Colorado guys (Tom Hearns et al) are planning on coming down August 28th. Also, it is my understanding that we will actually be running the entire month of September: this has been questionable in the past, but the promoter (Herschel Benkert) assures me that this year it is a for sure thing barring weather problems (please contact Herschel or myself for a weather check prior to coming - my number: 606-293-0405).

Also, a new addition is the nice modern shower/restrooms at the sprint car track adjacent to our facility which are open to all racers at the bike track. Plans for next year include starting a junior program with equipment recently obtained. Herschel is also in the process of obtaining a Jawa dealership through Bill Cody (this should be up and running this summer for anyone needing parts or new bikes - he assures me he is ready to make the best deals going).

Lon Purcell (my pit man) and I will be making one more trip to Canada on September 5&6 for the second round of the CMA National at Paris. We are bringing along two new riders who will be trying their hand at the D2/D3 championship - needless to say, they are extremely excited about this venture. So please get the word out that Speedway is alive, well, and growing down in our neck of the woods. And don't forget: "If you can't slide-why ride"

Anyone interested in these events can make arrangements through me. I can be reached at this E-Mail address (below) or at 606-293-0405 (home phone). This seems to work well as Barry and Herschel are so busy with the shop (one of the largest in Cinn.) and the rest of the racing. They often rely on me as their liaison.

The track is often available for Sunday practice sessions at no cost.

Typical gearing is 17:68

See ya soon, Patrick Reynolds.
