AMA Under 21 Speedway National Championship

Here are the Supplementary Regulations for the 2019 AMA Speedway National Under 21 Championship and AMA Youth Long Track National Championships.

We are delighted to announce that the AMA Under 21 Speedway National Championship makes a welcome return on Saturday November 16.

The event sadly fell off the radar a few years back. Given that Perris Raceway is hugely popular with the young riders and is the training ground for Team USA (which now tracks an Under 21 rider each year), the event being revived is only natural. Since Team USA began its new era in 2012, Under 21 riders have been an integral part of the program. Gino Manzares, Max Ruml, Dillon Ruml, Broc Nicol and Luke Becker have raced for Team USA as Under 21s. It’s a crying shame these stars haven’t had an Under 21 title in a while, but those who remain eligible (Under 21 on Jan 1 2019 per FIM rules) and the next batch to follow now have the event reinstated.

More news on this race coming; there will also be AMA Speedway National Long Track titles up for grabs for 250 Junior and 150 Mini classes.

We plan a huge event and thanks go to the AMA and FIM North America for their assistance.

Mark your calendars!

Freddie Edwards

With a very heavy heart myself and the Perris Speedway team are sad to inform you that track owner Freddie Edwards passed away last night after a period of illness. Without Freddie’s dedication we would not have a speedway program at Perris. He had been absent from our recent events and we knew this day would come but it doesn’t make this post easier to write.

We have many cherished memories of Freddie but perhaps the one that stands out is a Gumball rally over ten years back when he literally turned a swamp after heavy morning rainfall into a world class race track in less than two hours. He was an absolute track prep maestro. We pass on our condolences to his wife and our friend Donna, who has demonstrated her amazing strength during this tough period, to their family and all associated with Perris raceway. Freddie has been a massive asset to motorcycle racing, we will always race at his house in his honor and memory.

PERRIS SPEEDWAY PRESS RELEASE

Our race scheduled for 18 May has regretfully been canceled.

So as to fill in everyone in with what's going on, since the end of March we have been in detailed negotiations with our landlords at Southern California Flat Track for a renewed lease agreement. Our previous agreement ended at our last event in April and all parties have been working hard to work out a long term plan.

Our previous agreement was made some years ago and needs updating as both promotion and landlord face increasing costs, logistical issues and overhead, some of which are out of everyone's control. We have a few different options on the table but we all are in agreement not to rush matters, sign something without doing all due diligence and create problems down the line. Our preferred option will require more initial financial outlay and planning time on our part but could turn out very good for speedway long term.

Anyone who may be concerned about the future of speedway at Perris Raceway should be rest assured that what we are actually doing is securing a long term and viable future for our growing racing program. We are planning to back in time for our June 29 race and of course the year will once again end with FIM World Championship Speedway at the North America Final.

We have a great relationship with our landlords and all negotiations have been very upbeat, honest and professional. It's very close to being completed but not quite ready yet. Given one of our possible directions, we may well need more resources such as on the day staff. If you want to become involved, do get in touch with me.

Once more, we are sorry about skipping the 18th but I expect we'll have matters resolved in the next 2-3 weeks and then be moving forward!

Team USA will be tracking three of its brightest prospects at Manchester on 11th May for it's 2019 Speedway of Nations Semi Final. British League youngsters Luke Becker and Broc Nicol will be joined by American Final runner up Austin Novratil to form an underdog trio that will be attempting to qualify for the July final in Russia.

Becker has been turning heads already at Wolverhampton, especially after a stunning paid 14 points against Peterborough on April 22nd. Nicol has had a slower start to his sophomore campaign but all came good with an 8 point away haul at Newcastle on April 14th. Novratil has made several trips to the UK as part of the USA Dream Team, including a stunning 15+2 in his debut at Plymouth aged just 15 in 2010.

Team manager Lance King explained the reasoning behind the 2019 line up. "It's all about our long term goals really. Luke and Broc are full of ambition and ability for the future. They each have great potential and meetings like this are vital for the long haul. Austin earned second behind Luke in the American Final and will be in the GP Qualifying Rounds this year. He has previously attracted attention from British promoters and he showed at Perris in December what he can do."

"This is really about having a squad that can not only make a final but can get a medal. We need a deeper pool of resources to back and challenge our established riders if we really want to make a big impact. That's really what we are looking at in the next 2-3 years. We operate as a team, talk to all riders, look at individual logistics and commitments they have and go from there. Both Greg Hancock and Ricky Wells have been consulted from the beginning of our plans and they are both 100% behind our direction."

The USA compete against hosts Great Britain, Australia, Denmark, Finland, Latvia and France at the UK's National Speedway Stadium with the top three on the night going to the Russian July final.

Do not forget to attend the 2019 Museum 41 at Cody Racing on April 28, 2019!

For those of you still needing to turn your Costa Mesa licenses in - I will accept them either Saturday, April 27th at Perris Speedway or Sunday, April 28th at Museum 41. They will be sent out Monday, April 29th and accepted in time for you to ride opening night, Saturday, May 11th, should you choose to sign up & be included on the program. This is it - you're on your own after this weekend!! :-) License applications are available to download at Costa Mesa Speedway under Rider Documentation.

Industry Racing

Just making sure everyone knows, we have all our 2019 racer and mechanic track licensing forms on our website, IndustryRacing.com, to download and send in ASAP.

Please make sure you have either, to be able to sign up and race, including the 5th annual Connor Penhall Memorial Cup on May 29th! Racer licenses - as always, will include complimentary guest passes for family and friends.

Reminder; ALL racers and mechanics also must be an AMA member to sign up, and have their current card available to verify at any event.

Looking forward to an amazing and fun 2019 season! Thank You! Kelly Inman

Perris Speedway

Perris Poster Feb 2

March 2 Update: Not the post we wanted to make and not a decision taken lightly. But multiple weather forecasts call for 100% rain all day Saturday and potentially heavy. There is no way we can guarantee a safe race track or facility and making the call now gives everyone a chance to plan their weekend time without a maybe.

Due to track availability and my own personal schedule there won’t be a make up date so Round 2 will be March 30th.

The freak wet weather is very disappointing but we have such amazing plans and unique events for the rest of the year we can only look forward with excitement.

Sorry for the inconvenience but this is 100% the correct call.

-----

Broc Nicol will be Racing Perris next Saturday, his last appearance is the USA ahead of crossing the pond to prepare for the 2019 season with the Sheffield Tigers.

It’s an absolute blockbuster of a line up! Looking forward to seeing the speedway family next week!

-----

Racing continues at Perris Speedway with Team Racing in January, February and March 2019. Rain outs have canceled a couple of the Team Races, but February 16th will be the next try to start off the Team Racing season.

-----

This morning our four team managers Steve Graham, Sir Peter of Davenport, Kim Calvert and Phillip Harmatiuk met with myself and League Executive Tom Fox at a secret location (which coincidentally enough turned out to be an Irish pub) to draft the 2019 team squads.

Due to the overwhelming rider demand a second league will be introduced for the 2019 season. League 1 will consist of D1 and D2 riders and will feature 7 man teams. League 2 will be a mixture of D2, D3 and Juniors (all racing within division). Team managers will select their riders ahead of each event. It is more than possible that some of the D2 riders may race some events in League 1 and some in League 2.

Here are the 2019 teams as they stand at this point. New riders coming in for rounds 2 and 3 will be allocated to a team.

Round 1 is at Perris this coming Saturday @ 5pm.

We are stoked with the growth of our program and look forward to a great night of racing!

Glad to announce we have been invited back to Ridgecrest to stage a speedway race June 15 2019. This year we could not find a workable date. The 2017 race was excellent! Mark your calendars!
