June 12, 2019 - Industry Racing
By Ryan Evans

“Mad” Max Ruml ran through the card undefeated and won the Scratch Main Event to make it three different winners in the opening three weeks of the 2019 Industry Racing season.

Max Ruml, starting in gate one, and Dillon Ruml, starting in gate three left the line together and went through the first two bends wheel-to-wheel. Max Ruml edged ahead on the back straight and secured the lead entering turn three and held it through lap one. Max Ruml continued to lead but his younger brother was constantly lurking behind him and searching different lines to close ground. Finally, after taking the white flag the deep outside cushion started to work for and even though Max Ruml entered the final corner as the leader, Dillon Ruml was closing fast. They exited turn four and drag raced for the checkered flag and crossed the finish line with so close that it was left to the referee to decide. The decision was rendered that Max Ruml had won by the narrowest of margins and that Dillon Ruml would have to settle for second. Aaron Fox finished third and Gino Manzares was fourth.

The evening commenced with Fox defeating former Junior 250 National Champion Sebastian “Big Daddy” Palmese. Max Ruml held off Gino Manzares to win event two. Dillon Ruml defeated Austin “All Throttle” Novratil to end round one.

Dillon Ruml opened round two with another victory with Palmese getting second again. Max Ruml beat Fox for his second straight win. Manzares defeated Tim Gomez to finish the second round.

Manzares made it two wins in a row ahead of Shawn “Mad Dog” McConnell to begin the third round. Max Ruml won his third consecutive race with a defeat of Gomez. Fox scored his second win to complete the heats while Dillon Ruml overcame a tape penalty to get second.

Max Ruml continued his domination in the first semi by cruising to the victory while Dillon Ruml needed an outside pass to salvage second and the other transfer to the main. Fox used gate four to take the lead and win in the second semi with Manzares following him into the main.

After finishing in second last week, Tim Gomez moved up one spot to win the Scratch Consolation. McConnell was second, Palmese finished third, and Jake Isaac was fourth.

Kayle LeoGrande, who spent several years away from speedway, was victorious in the Second Division Main Event in just his first race meeting back at Industry Racing. Eloy Medellin finished second, David Lynch finished third, and Rudy Laurer was fourth.

Brent Smith led from start to finish en route to victory in the Third Division Main Event. Tyler Moszer finished second, George Yates was third, and Jake Myers finished fourth.

Slater Lightcap was victorious over Wilbur Hancock in the Junior 250 Main Event.

Ryder Schultz led the five-rider Mini 150 field into turn one and led through the first lap. He continued to hold the lead through the second lap but Jose “Nitro” Navarrete was gaining ground. Navarrete slipped by for the lead on the back straight and led at the end of lap three. Navarrete was still leading when Schultz went down and brought out the red flag. The referee determined that the race was complete and awarded the victory to Navarrete. Owen Williams finished second, Levi Leutz was third, Nick Dunn finished fourth, and Schultz was credited with fifth.

National Champions Joe Jones and Josh Flammia were victorious in the Sidecar Main Event for the second week in a row. Dillon Osborne and Ashley Gibbons were second, Ace Kale and Barry Nobles finished third, and Kevin Holman and Shannen Hennessey were fourth.

Next week’s event will only have First Division, Junior 250s, and Mini 150s. With the event being held on the eve of the Born Free Stampede and X Games Qualifier, it is sure to attract dignitaries from inside and outside the world of motorcycle racing.
