Aces in the driving seat as Max Ruml tops the points at Perris.

Round 2 of the 2019 League race campaign was held at Perris Raceway on March 30th with team victories going to the Santa Maria Aces and Perris Eagles in League 1 matches. Max Ruml was the top in points on the night with 16 points from 6 completed rides.

Match 1 – Santa Maria Aces 48 – Ventura Vikings 34.

The league favorite Santa Maria Aces took a 14opoint win over the depleted yet valiant Ventura Vikings. Vikings, reeling from their top two draft riders deciding to take the 2019 season off, kept the strong Aces honest before succumbing to the expected defeat. After two tied heats the Aces, with 5-1s in heats 3 and 5 took command, though a superb double point joker win from Blake Borello in event 10 brought the points gap back to 4. In the end the scores widened back to a 14-point Aces win. The Aces were led by Russell Green (12+2), Tommy Hedden (12+1) and Charles Pearson (13). Heat 4 had a freak incident with both Aces Damon Barry and Joey Donaldson looping at the gate, both withdrawing from the program. Borello (10), Sebastian Palmese, who showed superb pace with 7 points and Mike Miller (7) provided the main charge for the Vikings.

Aces 48: Austin Novratil 9 (3,R,3,3), Hayley Perrault 2 (R,2,0,0), Tommy Hedden 12+1 (3,2’,3,3,1), Russell Green 12+2 (3,2’,2,2’,2), Damon Barry 0 (X,T), Joey Donaldson 0 (R), Charles Pearson 13 (3,3,3,2,2) 13

Match 2 – Perris Eagles 42 – Huntington Beach Heathens 39.

A closely fought and tense match saw the defending champion Eagles record their first win of the campaign against a Heathens team that lost two of its top three in a heat 5 first turn incident. After a tied first heat the Heathens recorded a heat 2 5-1 to move ahead. Heat three saw both Heathens (Dave Hancock and Rich Richards) fail to finish, putting Eagles one ahead, but they regained the lead with a 4-2 in heat 4, led by an impressive win from newly graduated former junior Jake Isaac. Heat 5 spelled disaster for the Heathens with David Hancock and Rick Richards, Heathens 3 and 4, tangling in turn 1 and both taking no further part in the event. The Heathens, now four points and two men down, fought back to take the lead back after heat 8 and again after heat 13. However a heat 14 5-1 from Dillon Ruml and Will McCloskey put the Eagles ahead to eventually narrowly win by 3. Dillon Ruml led the Eagles with 12 points with good back up from Eddie Castro on 11. Max Ruml scored 14 big points for the Heathens with best support from Jake Isaac (9) and Rohn Zellner (8+1).
