Buck Blair won the Rider of the Night Final and helped lead the Victorville Vikings to a 48 to 30 victory over the Perris Eagles at Perris Raceway.
The first attempt to run the Rider of the Night Final ended when two riders fell in turn one. Blair led the restart into turn one and Neil Facchini cut back behind Kenny Ingalls and Jason Ramirez to get himself into second. Facchini would not improve his position any more than that, though, as Blair cruised to the victory. Facchini had to settle for second, Ramirez was third, and Ingalls finished fourth.
The day began with eleven riders competing in the Joker Machine SuperPole competition. Each rider would have one timed lap from a flying start. The winner would get first gate choice in the Final. Ingalls clocked the fastest time with 12.50 second lap. Blair was next with 12.60, and Ramirez was third with 13.00.
The team competition began with Blair beating Mike Bloom and Gary Hicks, in his 2008 debut. Donnie Robinson and Jim Painter swapped the lead several times before Robinson took the win and led a 4-2 heat win for the Vikings. Ingalls and Lee Edwards each won drawn heats before Ingalls handed Blair his only defeat of the day en route to a Perris 4-2 heat advantage that tied the score at 15.
Bloom scored his first win in a drawn heat. Greg Ayers led the next race before Ramirez went by and led a 4-2 heat advantage for Victorville. Bloom got his second win, but again it was a drawn heat. Facchini and Robinson paired up for a 4-2 to open the Victorville lead to 29-25. The match got blown open when Ramirez and Gomez teamed for a 5-1 and were followed by a Blair led 4-2 that gave the Vikings a ten point lead.
The final two heats drove the stake even further through the hearts of the Eagles as Facchini and Gomez partnered a 5-1 that was followed by Blair and Ramirez scoring a 5-1 of their own to make the final score 48-30 in favor of the Vikings.
Ingalls held off Gomez to win the Rider of the Night Last Chance and complete the main event field. Ayers was third and Bloom was credited with fourth.
Gino Manzares, who usually competes in the Youth Division, led the Second Division Main Event for two laps, but Robinson made up enough ground to be on his back wheel at the end of lap three. Manzares led through turn one and onto the back straight, but Robinson was poised to take advantage of a mistake. Manzares and Robinson came together in turn three with both riders going down very hard. Robinson was up first, and after several minutes, Manzares was as well. Manzares was awarded the win and Robinson was deemed the cause of the stoppage and was credited with sixth.
Tim McGrath led the Third Division Main through turn one but was passed by Chris Thomas on the back straight. McGrath stalked Thomas through the third lap before passing him on the back straight on the final lap to snatch the victory. Thomas was second, Hal Blair finished third, and Jonni Jade was fourth.
Austin Novratil returned to the site of his Gumball Rally victory and took home another trophy with his win in the Youth First Division Main Event. Joey Holt finished second and Brad Pappalardo was third.
Major Davis was victorious in the Youth Second Division Main Event that was a battle of attrition because Rocco Scopellite experienced bike problems during the race and Samuel Ramirez was unable to start because of an engine failure earlier in the day.
Nathan Remington won both his heats and the Pee Wee Main Event. Kylie Ayers finished second, Gino Scopellite was third, Garielle Manzares finished fourth, and Justin Krips was fifth.
The next speedway event at Perris Raceway will be the Track Championship on Sunday, September 21.
